Umno is now in deep, deep trouble.
First, Umno’s candidate lost in the Kuala Terengganu by-election.
Then, on the eve of Chinese New Year, Bota assemblyman Nasarudin Hashim quit Umno and defected to PKR.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi described Nasarudin as weak, his deputy Najib Tun Razak condemned the move as inappropriate while Anwar Ibrahim claimed more BN elected representatives would cross over to PKR soon.
Whatever it is, Nasrudin said he has decided to move on, so no, there is no Bala the private investigator here.
Then, Umno’s disciplinary board chairman Tengku Rithauddeen proposed that the party’s Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri wings be abolished to curb money politics.
As expected, everyone condemned the proposal, although Umno vice president Muhyiddin Yassin said Umno in need of drastic change and fast.
Well, Tengku Rithauddeeen has just came up with something drastic and fast too, no?
The result? He is now officially the Umno #1 public enemy while Zaid Ibrahim is laughing all the way from the sideline.
Desperate.
Keyword? Money politics.
Well.
So ….
Then, after much fanfare and a few rounds of hide-and-seek, Perak Umno chief Tajol Rosli said he is incapable to bring change in Perak Umno, hence decided to quit.
Before that, The Star reported that the former MB expressed disappointment with a report stating that he has resigned as state Umno chief, calling the report "unethical".
However, a few hours afterward, he quit and Najib takes over the helm.
Unethical? Who’s unethical?
Well.
More to come I guess, afterall, Perak is not the only state with Umno in Malaysia, if you get what I mean.
Umno in 2009 is in deep, deep trouble.
As Abdullah is leaving the scence soon, leaving the mess to his appointed successor, can it probably be true that Najib is fated to be the next Opposition Leader?
