9MP mid-term review: Another vengeance towards Penangites?
Thursday, June 26th, 2008 | 12:39 am @ SK
What about au revoir to the RM2bil monorail and RM1.5bil Penang Outer Ring Road (PORR) and at the same time, additional RM10bil for the Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s pet projects - The corridor projects?
What a strange riddle when his administration is good enough for RM30bil to alleviate the increase in the cost of living among poor Malaysians (God knows who are going to be considered as part of the poor Malaysians), RM10bil for the corridors and RM2bil for the double tracking project from Ipoh to Rawang but just not good enough for the combined RM3.5bil to overcome the worsening traffic jams in Penang?
Is that a vengeance towards the Penangites by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who is also hailed from Penang?
Coincidentally, Malaysiakini reported that one of the MP from SAPP Eric Majimbun dismissed Pak Lah as an incompetent leader wheras his deputy Najib Tun Razak announced a series of massive operations against illegal immigrants in Sabah as if all these problems cropped up not long ago?
The way I look at it, I think the Government is now beyond panic-drive approach due to the fear of losing the right of administration to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition, hence with their brains akin to sponge ruthlessly absorbing feedback from our East Malaysia friends, sucking some resource from there and replenishing some into the area, just to ensure that the Sabahans and Sarawakians being kept happy for now while laying the pain on someone else?
Like it or not, it will be unraveled in the Parliament tomorrow, when Pak Lah is expected to submit the mid-term review of the 9MP.

Greetings Sir,
I understand the content of your blog posting today. Are you a Penangite yourself? :) I feel so that accusing Pak Lah as "avenging" the Penangites is a little bit unfair, because frankly, you dont feel he is that hateful toward his own people right? I don’t believe so.
I feel that yes, the money is rakyat’s money, but it does not just belong to the people of penang, it belongs to all malaysians. And the priority at the moment is as we all can observe is the poor folk.

Greetings sir,
I agree with what daniel said. I feel its not fair to accuse AAB that way. If even so he lose in his own state, dont u think he will eventually gain the support of his Penagites supporters back by doing something that will bring more benefit to the rakyat in Penang? Building the TRAMS is a good decision and the government should do this project on Penang and on KL as well so that the efficiency of the public transport could be improved. It is a wise decision to whelved the projects of monorails in the penang.

I thought most Penangites don’t want the PORR in the first place?

the three jokers above are funny. it’s pretty obvious that the federal govt is taking money from where BN loses, and put it to where PakLah needs to bribe - Sabah Sarawak. Notice that Sabah & Sarawak each got $1billion for "development", announced immediately after the election - during the defection fever. Thanks to Anwar Ibrahim. and you guys expect these development funds to flow to the poor….kakaka…lawak la. where have you been the past 50 years?

firdauszaki, may i ask who’s plan is it to built the trams to replace the monorails? Dollahs?! Correct me if i’m wrong, but after skimming through his whole speech on 9th plan mid term review…YAAAWWWNNNNNN…i did not see any concrete plans for a tram system also? Although i would agree with you that it is a WISE decision to shelf the monorail plan, but which IMBECILE is it that approves it in the 9th plan in the first place? Economic plan for a Country is not like your average plan to go shopping, OK?! you dont keep changing plan to suite the situation, OK?! you LISTEN to the people before you plan, OK?! when you do PLAN, you STICK to the plan, OK?! clearly in this case the PLAN was a SCAM. When they cannot SCAM, they SCRAM. To think that ppl like u and daniel would still PITY them! You dont even know that your ASS was on a FRYING PAN!!

Daniel
Yes, you "feel" whatever stated above… What we concern is the MP and the past and upcoming development in the country, REGARDLESS of WHERE, WHO and of course the money… Anyone claim that xxx money is specifically belongs to xxx ppl? Let’s focus back to the core instead of raise up sensitive issue

What’s wrong with being polite, HAHA?!
You are so cynical.
Read around and you may find other opinions being happy about no PORR and monorail project. Open your eyes, based on your opinion there, you are being a little closed up and stereotypical.
I am not forcing anyone to accept my views. And also, I dont expect you to force your views on mine.

The reactions to this shelving of the Monorail and PORR have been mixed, and it’s unfortunate that most attention has been focused on the angry and knee-jerking reaction to the "BN punishing Penangites" claim. I think it is important to reveal all angles of reacions, and see why some quarters, Penangites themselves, welcome this move by the government and see it as an opportunity to start focusing on other possible means of alleviating the traffic woes in the Island from ground up - revamping the bus system and the trams are amongst the suggestions, and also that it is a chance for the State Government to be more directly involved in the process.
