Perak MB: Swearing-in cancelled

Thursday, March 13th, 2008 | 5:41 pm @ SK

Initially, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang spoilt the party when he snubbed the decision by the Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah in appointing PAS nominee Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as the next MB.

Although he apologized the next day, however the damage is irreversible. It’s done.

From there onwards, I thought things would turn into a better prospect.

Unfortunately, the PKR seized the chaotic moment and threatened to pull out from the Perak state administration on hearing that eight of the 10 executive council posts will go to DAP while the remaining two going to other parties.

So now what? The swearing-in of the MB has been postponed cancelled, without any reason given by the Palace.

I thought it was the beginning of a new Malaysia.

I thought it’s time for us anak-anak bangsa Malaysia to speak like one and act like one.

But …

I’m feeling so depressed that we Malaysians continue to look at each other based on their skin colors.

Is this what’s happening when power goes to one’s head?

While the only option left with me is to continue have faith towards the ongoing leadership crisis in the Perak coalition government, I hope that God will instill some sense into them.

I pray that starting from now onwards, no political play is going to take place.

Enough is enough. Stop fighting and get down to work immediately!

That’s my plea to the Opposition coalition, no more no less.

Kit apologized

Thursday, March 13th, 2008 | 11:15 am @ SK

OK, now Kit has apologized for the outburst last night.

My three-paragraph statement at 7 pm last night that the DAP Central Executive Committee emergency meeting on 9th March had not given approval for a PAS Mentri Besar to head a Perak coalition state government was not made out of disrespect to the Perak Sultan and Regent both whom I have always held in the highest regard and I apologise for any offence caused. The statement was on the party position at the time.

There have been further discussions and developments on the matter in the hours after the statement. Announcements of the latest position will be made.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, all parties in the DAP-PKR-PAS coalition will attend the swearing-in of PAS nominated Perak MB at 4pm today, says state DAP chief Ngeh Koo Ham.

It’s all over by now. The real work has just begun.

Anyway, let me reiterate this to the non anak bangsa Malaysia if I may put it this way, especially those from the ultra group, if you’re not ready to give up the communal mindset, don’t expect others to think alike and return the good faith.

And yet, the most despise part is that, it was still at the stage discussing about the formation of a new state Government, however with power that comes along with the leaders, are we seeing the true color of each and every personality that won them the rakyat’s mandate, which in this case, it’s like merely a few days ago?

Are you ok, Kit Siang?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008 | 12:27 am @ SK

Less than a week after the Opposition camps swept to an unprecedented win in a few states in the GE 2008, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang turned into unruly behavior with regarding to the appointment of the new Perak MB by the Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah.

I think it’s very rude for him to snub the decision made by Raja Nazrin, given that prior to the appointment, Perak DAP chairperson and Sitiawan state assemblyperson Ngeh Khoo Ham, who spoke for the coalition, told reporters that all three parties would unanimously respect the decision of the sultan and cooperate to form the new state government.

Hence, when names of three nominees, each from DAP, PKR and PAS respectively were submitted to Raja Nazrin, I thought the coalition has made the right choice as Raja Nazrin has been a respected ruler by every level of society and popular of always taking a fair and impartial stance on various issues.

Now, the decision has been made by the Palace that Pasir Panjang state assemblyperson and Perak PAS secretary Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin was confirmed as the new MB of the state.

The outburst by Kit Siang in such a disgraceful manner is really uncalled for, given that the appointment of the MB is the prerogative of the sultan alone. Worse, his decision to call upon DAP Perak Assemblymen to stay away from the swearing-in ceremony for Perak MB scheduled tomorrow is turning the Perak’s political landscape into turmoil and merely providing more opportunities for the Opposition in the states, which happened to the BN component parties to capitalize on this unfortunate event.

For the sake of the fellow Perak-ian who have entrusted the Opposition pact to form the next State government, I strongly urge Kit Siang to do the right thing by quickly retracting the irresponsible statement as well as apologize to Raja Nazrin for his unruly behavior, in which subsequently will provide a clear passageway for the formation of next State Government and get down to work immediately.

Any further delay is going to be a disaster for the Opposition pact, as well as the Perak-ian who casted their votes for the Opposition.

On additional note, since Opposition has gained inroad in this GE 2008, I think it’s an admirable achievement as this is the first time where the Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered the heaviest defeat ever since 1969, hence it’s appropriate and also it’s time for Kit Siang to take a backseat, rather than being seen as a dictator who continue to dictate the party’s future.

A message to the new state governments

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 | 9:04 pm @ SK

Dear leaders of the state governments of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kelantan,

We congratulate the parties for a hard-won battle against the seemingly insurmountable Barisan Nasional.

We the voters stood by you - DAP, PKR and PAS during those days you were known as the opposition. We gave a great part of ourselves to help in your noble cause. We parted with our hard-earned money and donated generously at your open air ceramahs. We braved the unrelenting terrible weather, stood heel-deep in mud listening to your promises of a better Malaysia. We refused to budge under all adverse circumstances. Some of us have placed our careers and families at risk. We were vocal critics and diligent deep-throats supporting the opposition while earning a living in the civil service.

We slogged and blogged, wrote and re-wrote, voted and revolted,

We did it all for only one reason – that together we can initiate change towards a better Malaysia. You have now won victoriously, far beyond anyone’s expectations.

Do not disappoint us the rakyat. You have proclaimed us your bosses by your own admission and we lay claim to that role.

You will fulfill your promises and we expect you to demonstrate genuine effort even if you fail in the end. In the past, you could cite limited resources and forced inhibition as excuses for delivery failure. No more now. You are in charge and the last thing we rakyat need is more mitigating factors.

We will judge you by the same measures by which we have expelled the previous regime.

Rest assured that you will be held accountable to every proclamation and condemnation that you ever uttered over the last four years.

We voted you in without regard to your skin color, religion or biological makeup. We were Chinese who have voted PAS, Malays who have chosen DAP and Indians who opted for PKR. We were the oppressed who saw you as liberators and the cheated who believed in the truth. We your bosses have set aside our differences and we shall settle for nothing less than the same among you. If we could unit in spite of years of BN racism, you as leaders have even more reason to collaborate and achieve.

While we won’t expect you to see eye to eye in all things, we do not want any washing of dirty linen in public, either. We affirm our right to praise or criticize you and it is our privilege to have a say in decision-making. We do not desire fanciful slogans or sweet-sounding promises. Rather, we wish to taste sincerity and humility, and we demand you from this moment to observe humility at all times. We insist on our right to be heard, our grouses to be attended to and our welfare to be considered.

We seek justice, not exhibitionism.

Do not betray the trust we placed in you, lest we show you the exit the way we did to the previous regime that betrayed us.

This is your time - your one and only chance to prove you’re worth your salt.

Don’t blow it.

From,
An anak bangsa Malaysia

Go Samy Vellu, please go!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 | 12:42 am @ SK

Let me put it this way, MIC president is the most shameless creature in Malaysia’s political landscape, ever.

Feb 19, he declared that he is ready to go immediately if the Indian community doesn’t want him anymore.

That was less than a month before the GE 2008 on March 8.

Hence, he was voted out in the Sungai Siput parliamentary constituency, which means in a way, the voters have lost confidence in him and do not want him s their representative.

Nevertheless, he now vows to stay on as MIC chief and not willing to step down as promised earlier.

He said he will continue as the MIC president and restructure the party.

Apparently, Samy Vellu being a joke of his own making, being urged by the Malaysia’s foremost Comedy Courtiers to quit.

Tun Mahathir has long gone.

Ling Leong Sik has long gone.

Even Lim Keng Yaik has gone too.

So, what are you waiting for, Samy?

We reject deadwoods.

We need fresh air.

You’re now effectively irrelevant!

Go Samy, please go!

The next Perak MB, but before that …

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 | 10:36 pm @ SK

While we understand that the Perak MB is still undecided between the three candidates proposed by each Opposition parties, there are rumors spread via SMS that the Regent of Perak His Raja Nazrin Shah has accepted DAP’s candidate Ngeh Koo Ham as the MB of Perak, with strong objection from the PAS.

The Opposition coalition which consists of DAP, PKR and PAS announced a proposal to form a coalition government tafter winning 31 of the 59 Perak State Legislative Assembly seats in the 12th GE.

DAP, PKR and PAS won 18, 7 and 6 seats respectively and had to form a coalition government as none of them had won the 30 seats needed for a simple majority.

Anyway, here goes the rumors via the SMS.

"Fwd-Urgent! Raja Nazrin has accepted Ngeh Kho Ham (Christian) as Chief Minister of Perak but PAS objected violently. Pray God’s will be done. pl fwd"

Fortunately, there are concerned anak-anak bangsa Malaysia out there who do not believe in racial politics and are pretty much disturbed by the irresponsible act.

Example, like my blogging friend Sivin Kit, who works as a pastor, gave a few reasons below on why he DISAGREE to forward the SMS:

  1. I don’t know the source. So, I’m not sure whether both the info on Ngeh is correct.  And the "objected violently" is very subjective and is prone to misunderstanding.
  2. Even if it’s true that Raja Nazrin choose Ngeh (which if I’m right it’s the Sultan’s authority unless delegated) why highlight the Christian part which alienates our Muslim friends unnecessarily.
  3. While I don’t question the sincerity of the 1st person who sent this (even if this is true), I question the maturity of it
  4. And if it’s not from someone not sincere, and trying to stir some hostility, let’s not fall for it. These are times where we must not let our guard down.

I strongly urge every fellow anak-anak bangsa Malaysia to take heed of Sivin’s advice and stop forwarding the SMS. Thank you Sivin.

While I understand that it’s unfair for DAP to be denied the MB’s post, however I’m equally disturbed by the number of" concerned citizens" of the possibility of having a MB from PAS.

Let’s make no mistake about this. Even if DAP’s candidate is to be appointed as the MB, that doesn’t mean DAP can afford to deny the Bumi rights or accord more privileges to the non-Bumi. The same theory applies if the new MB is either from the PKR or even PAS, since PAS vice-president Husam Musa stressed that even if the Sultan chooses a menteri besar from PAS, there would not be drastic social changes that would affect non-Muslims.

It’s time for many of us out there (especially those ultra-Chinese or ultra-Malay) to do away with racial politics and racist minded, if we’re expecting this country to thrive under the Bangsa Malaysia concept, otherwise don’t expect others to think alike when we ourselves are not ready to give up the communal thinking, just like in this case, the appointment of the next MB for Perak.

Either way, for the new MB to be from any Opposition party, I’m very confident that His Royal Highness Raja Nazrin Shah, who is respected by every level of society, will come out with a fair and just decision on the appointment of the next MB by end this week.

Besides, what’s more important is to have a MB which is credible, fair, able to perform the role effectively and looking into the state affairs diligently rather than any other trivial secondary factors such as their skin-color especially, in which, unfortunately, is a concern for certain small groups.

For now, let us rest our case and stop speculating about who’s the possible MB, or risk creating feelings of uneasiness among the multi-racial Perakian, or worse, throughout the entire country.

Father-in-law: Son-in-Law has no influence on me!

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 | 5:52 pm @ SK

Notwithstanding the worst political whitewash in the GE ever experienced by the Barisan Nasional (BN) ruling coalition , the father-in-law said the son-in-law has nothing to do with ANYTHING he has done or decision he has made.

"It’s a wrong perception and I pity Khairy […]," the FIL said.

So, what’s next? KJ in the cabinet? KJ continues to reiterate that the PM is the FIL in law, so …?

Looks like the poor leadership of the ruling coalition is going nowhere, probably made worse by this absurd statement defending the SIL outrightly without any sense of remorse.

Pity Khairy? I thought he is the richest unemployed person in this country with the most powerful FIL one could ever dream of?

Hang on, KJ!

It was a complete reversal of result at Rembau the other night.

From a majority of 141 votes, PKR candidate for the Rembau parliament constituency Badrul Hisham Shaharin turned from a winner to the losing end when his opponent Khairy Jamaluddin won by a staggering difference of 5,000 votes!

Now, Badrul, who is famously known as Che Gu, claimed that there were irregularities in the vote counting procedure as the Election Commission (EC) did not issue the ‘Form 14′ when it was compulsory to do so.

‘Form 14′ contains the number of total voters for a particular polling station and once the vote counting has been finalized, the form will be the official indicator of the number of votes designated for each candidate, otherwise the results could not be considered as an official one but most importantly, it gave way for manipulation as the number of votes may be added in favour of a particular candidate.

Hence, he considers issuing a petition to challenge the results and call for a re-election, in which the void of ‘Form 14′ is said to be good enough to nullify the Rembau election results.

Hidup Rakyat!

Monday, March 10th, 2008 | 1:33 am @ SK

I’m totally out of words!

Before that, let me congratulate my fellow friends, colleagues and all Malaysians on how you exercised your democracy rights.

For you and everyone else to play such an immense role as a anak bangsa Malaysia, with the country now back as a fully democratised nation, I’d like to say thank you.

As you can see, you vote counts!

To those who don’t believe that our votes are precious enough to ignite reform, March 8 is one of the best example that you and I, if we work together, we can achieve and destroy the most unthinkable.

It’s awesome and it’s unprecedented.

It had convinced the present administration that we’re are the boss and people’s power is too critical to be ignored.

It further proven to the Government that never ever take the rakyat for granted or else, we’ll revolt as what’s happening now.

Anyway, I never foresee such a dramatical transformation, but I think everyone else is the same state of shock as mine too.

Nevertheless, on the morning of the election day, I was on my way back from overseas, landed in KLIA around noon and took a transit flight back to Penang.

Albeit the heavy downpour and slight traffic jam on my way to the polling center, I casted my precious 30 minutes before the closing time, which means to those that I asked to mark my words, I just want to tell you that, I made it!

The outcome? The rakyat denied the ruling coalition’s 2/3 majority with 4 connected states from the up-north Kedah until the down-south Selangor taken over by the Opposition alliance.

For now, the next 100 days are critical and the entire country is watching, which means it’s time for more hard work and to prove that they’re worthy of the mandate given by the rakyat. Much needs to be done.

For now, let’s hail the new dawn for Malaysia, when the people are too angry and condemned Barisan Nasional with its worst ever result since 1969.

For now, HIDUP RAKYAT!
