How can the BR coalition speak as one. It’s a sham! It’s not even a marriage of convenience but living together in sin. The coalition has not been formalised legally. If PAS is the CM, it means that DAP by being the EXCOs is cooperating with PAS. This is against DAP’s own policy to not having any cooperation or links with PAS.

In 1999, UMNO had more seats than Gerakan in Penang State assembly but guess who was the Chief Minister. UMNO realised that although they have more seats, to maintain stability they have to give way although the pressure was great by the Malays for the CM post.

Isn’t the situation similar in Perak?

In contrary, the Sultan of Perak has the discretionary power to waive the two requirements.  This proviso  (section 12 (2))  must be from those days ago when the "malay must be a muslim" conjecture was not yet a  stiffling consensus, because according to the provision, the ruler can waive EITHER or both, which means – looking at the word EITHER – that the State Constitutions of Perak recognises Malays who are not muslims, and apparently if the Sultan deems it expedient, that chap who is a Malai only (not Malay Muslim, mind you) can be appointed an MB.

Correspondingly, DAP sought the Sultan perkenan from the proviso/discretionary powers.  The state chairman is a legal so he knows it enough to submit a DAP man for the job.

As for PKR….  It would be a sad say if they do not wish to partake with the new coalition governtment. Tajol Rosli must be salivating at the prospect of moving back to the MB residence in Ipoh.

DAP is greedy in wanting to grab 8 Exco seats and giving PKR and PAS 1 seat each instead of the earlier agreed 6-2-2 allocation.  PKR is also greedy as they feel the seats allocated should be accordance to the race composition of the State.

The best solution is to give the governance of the State back to BN and DAP-PKR-PAS can keep to their respective opposition seats.  Afterall non of these coliation parties expected to take over the state goverment in the first place.

DAP and PKR, please give me back my votes and that include 18 other votes that I’ve convinced my family members to vote for you!  Hold a snap election tomorrow and I’ll guarantee all of you will be voted out.

Whatever disagreement there may be among the opposition parties in Perak, I take heart that most comments made in the blogosphere have been incredibly supportive of a non-racial agenda.  These feedbacks have demonstrated that Malaysians may probably be maturing politically.  With such grassroot support, I optimistic that these hiccups will be solved amicably.
