Not long ago, a casual acquaintance of mine informed me that he was joining one of the component party in the Barisan Nasional coalition.
Dumbfounded, I asked him why.
He said by joining that party, he will have more resources and channels to perform as compared to Opposition parties. I gave him a few typical examples of how certain leaders wanted to change the ruling coalition but being changed instead.
I wish him all the best, not knowing how well he actually performs up to this point.
But today, I’m saddened by another example of a good leader in the like of Zaid Ibrahim, an outspoken lawyer and Member of Parliament for Kota Baru being dropped as a candidate to defend his parliamentary seat in this coming general election.
I respect Zaid as someone whom I’d rate as the "conscience of Umno" and trust that he is a victim of being an sincere politician who speaks the truth without fear and favor.
He is also being "infamous" within the Umno faction for proposing that the Barisan Nasional coalition component parties merge and form a a multiracial political party which represents all Malaysians minus the usual communalism, which is the way forward for this country – a Bangsa Malaysia society.
I say, Zaid Ibrahim should contest in Klang Valley and he will still win handsomely even if he is running as an independent candidate, doesn’t matter the fact that Kota Baru voters has just lost a good MP.

Too bad. I like Zaid Ibrahim.
I like to see change and I will vote for whoever that can make change happen.
Ideally… I want to have..
1. Fair competitions for opportunity and wealth.
2. Better social harmony between all races.
3. Better education system to make the country more competent.
4. New social cultures, lifestyle and concepts to be introduced to create a sustainable new age economy.
5. More opportunities more youngsters to go global.
And I still think BN will win majority this time, given that there is not enough money in the opposition front for activities, campaigns and etc.
Why not we collect donations like what Hillary Clinton does ? (Just playing doc)
I vote for change. And I don’t even know which candidate I will vote for in my area, with the election is just around the corner. Don’t tell me I only start to learn about my candidates by Feb 24. That is too late lar. Anyway, just a layman opinion.
i just wrote a few days ago that ppl like zaid ibrahim and shahrir samad are the few that actually do things with their brains and hearts.
btw. zaid ibrahim has a very successful legal firm..he ll be fine. he is the snr partner of zaid & co.
I expected him to be dropped. Too much of a non-conformist for UMNO’s liking.
I agree with Suanie. He is the only UMNO MP that I respect.
remember, Dr Toh of Gerakan. He tried to change BN from within and on retirement confirmed that its futile. Tun Mahatir reaffirmed that change can only come from outside. corruption within UMNO is too pervasive and honestand credible individuals are crowded out.
zaid, do the nation a fvour. get out from the corrupt party and try to change the curse of the nation outside. you will find many supporters.
He is a politician, he should know better. He should have played the game better.
People say Abdullah is stupid but then again how does a stupid person get the PM’s post. Maybe he’s a smart guy playing stupid. But if he is really stupid, the Umno members are more stupid and the people of Malaysia are the most stupid.
Two-face,
I do agree with yr remark that Malaysians are the most stupid when you hv a stupid leader being elected as a MP and subsequently the coveted PM post.
In fact,I’m one of the stupid person who voted him in 2004 GE in Kepala Batas constituency. However, having said that, it doesn’t mean that I’ll continue to be fooled by that bugger, which means my vote will definitely go to the Opposition to show my utmost displeasure over his performance as both the MP and the PM.
It’s ok to be a stupid Malaysian once, however it’s a sin to continue to act in a stupid way by voting for an incompetent leader even though u’re certain that the candidtate is not going to perform by looking into his past records.
I say, let’s do the right n wise thing in the coming GE, if we’re not going to vote for change, who will? Meanwhile, watch out for my next post, a post that I’d like to dedicate to losers who don’t even care to register as a voter, let alone talking about asking them to vote!
sk
you are not stupid. we were just conned. well, we are gonna redeem ourselves, isnt it, come this election.
YES. AGREE…..LET’S STOP THEM ALL FROM CONTINUOSLY CONNED US AND OUR GENERATION….IF PAKISTANI CAN DO IT, WHY DONT WE!!!
Well, I hope Zaid will run as an independent in an urban/well-informed area. Then only ponder about joining any party after winning that seat.
[...] Zaid Ibrahim [...]
I don’t know Zaid much before I read the story published in Forbes (issue Mar 10, 2008). After knowing him, I think we need more leaders like Zaid in UMNO and Malaysia in general.
Malaysia (or UMNO specifically as the President is de facto Malaysia PM) is going thru a leadership crisis now! We do not have leader after all after Mahathir had stepped down (Although we do not agree with his many mega projects, perhap he still one of the leader that guided Malaysia well). Look around UMNO nominated MPs for coming election, not many of them have any good record to be mentioned. What else to lead Malaysia to next level achievement! Over a casual conversation with a friend who what is happenning with Ministers today (when Chua’s VCD hit the news), I said to him, Malaysia is govern by M for "Morons"!. They are no ministers governing Malaysia!!! So what do you expect from a group of "morons". They still think that Malaysian are naive like decades ago and could be led in same manners!
I honestly plead Zaid not to quit UMNO or politics at all. We Malaysians need more of "him". We need him to rope in more people like "him" into UMNO and other BN’s parties to make the changes that will bring Malaysia to next level!!!
If we think we can, then we can do it! Malaysia BOLEH!

[...] Remember Zaid Ibrahim, the conscience of Umno? [...]
PM just announced that Zaid Ibrahim will be appointed Minister in the PM’s Department to reform the Malaysian judiciary system.
Congratulation on being appointed as Minister in the PM’ Department. I have been following your issue for so long. I find that the UMNO goverment is very unfair toward you all a while. Am so happy when I heard that your name are being mention by our PM. It’s a long way that I wish that you have been appointed as a minister long time ago. You are the only favourite(BN) YB that I admire and dare to speak without favour and fear. At last with God’s will you are chosen eventhough many members in UMNO are not happy with your outsporken style. At last the PM wake-up and appoint you. With your appointment I hope VK Lingam-It look like me and sound like me can be settle immediately. Replace our AG who are not expert in laws of Malaysia. He was appointed as a reward for downfall of Dato’ Seri Annuar Ibrahim. Prosecuted all the persons involved with this crazy tape. Reform back our tarish Malaysian Judicary System. With your vocal voice and expert in laws everybody respect you. Last but not least, I wish you the very best and am looking forward to your confident services.
