Chua Soi Lek’s last press conference

Chua Soi Lek is a rare gentleman in Malaysia’s political arena.

He admitted his misdemeanor without further scrutiny and the next day, he resigned on his own accord, at least it looks like one though.

As what Dr. Chua said, he wouldn’t want to speculate whether it’s a political sabotage to topple him from the political scene, however there is a response from him during his last press conference that intrigues me.

Q: Was it politically motivated?

A: I have said before I would not like to speculate. I have received no less than 200 SMSes condemning certain party leaders of which I will not go into it. Because the moment I go into it, I do not like to see my party split. And I hope the party leadership under YB Ong Ka Ting, who I am sure if he is practising real healthy political culture, will look into this. Healthy political culture embraces no corruption, no moral lapses of judgement. A healthy political culture should not just be confined to just term of office. That is easy. Anyone can fulfil it. The terms of office are the easiest to fulfil. Three terms, two terms. Healthy political culture is good but it should be all embracing and not just term of office. What is more important and what is hoped for and demanded by Malaysians is to be clean from the aspect of no corruption and also in the question of no moral and ethical weaknesses. To me, this is more important and more difficult to achieve.

Read between the lines: Healthy political culture, three terms 9 years, no corruption, no more lapses of judgement, no moral and ethical weakness.

Those are the keywords.

What about the frequently-mentioned "holier than thou"? Ulama? Lesson to other leaders, whether from the MCA or any other component party? Anyone who has made a mistake or has certain weaknesses, then he has to be responsible as a leader?

Food for thought.

who are those behind this assasination? story in the market is No 2 who is now embroiled in one scandal after another. the 4.7 billion scandalous port has not even die down yet. now there’s another white elephant, a humongous one, coming in the form of double track rail and it gonna cost 12.5 billion. read my lips, thats only from KL to northern region. what about southern region? reserved for YTL and under a different rail system? goosh, are these two systems compatible and it is being split for the benefit of some parties? just like the same division of spoils for  three city monorails that has no connectivity in KL?

He’s in politics, right? Of course it’s politically motivated. Nobody will be so naive not to think so. For all we know, 90% of politicians are doing it but didn’t get caught. Remember politics is about perception and image. Even if you do good but your image sucks, you’re not going anywhere.

He had his time and now he f***k-up big time. So what? Come the next politician to take his place. No big deal.

  • his sex life bears no impact on life of normal malaysian. his quick resignation without proper handover and with no one in sight to takeover does.

what is going on with badawi. if he can’t keep Chua, at least he should be intelligent enough to ensure a smooth handover.

such is the recklessness of the regime that’s running the show in Malaysia.

  • Luckily he resigned.. if not people will talking about this forever..

Misdemeanour? That’s a fatal sin! Just ask my wife! :)

Surprisingly, as history has shown, many a great man had fallen fro m glory when they fell to the temptation of beautiful women. The Russians have their sparrows and some Malaysians have their "personal friend".

As the Chinese always say, many men are unable to pass the hurdle of beautiful women.

His parting shot during his last press conference is still composed and mature.  But his latest informal statements: "My biggest mistake ever since coming to KL is to fulfil my duties as the Health Minister and as MCA vice-president" seems to indicate that he is now a bitter old man.

    http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v3/news.php?id=305687

He is bitter against his opponents whom he suspects are involved in the frame up more so than he is repentant of his immoral act.  Who can blame him?  He is human after all, its always easier to blame others.  However, his promiscuity gave his enemies a chance  to  engineer his downfall.   He should look at him own weaknesses first.

On hindsight, I won’t give him too much credit for owing up, which is most likely than not, an inevitable PR maneuver.  Every man/woman has his/her own skeletons in the closet, but it is how we learn from our mistakes that matters.  His words: "This is Chua Soi Lek. I will never change." do not seem to indicate that a new, improved Dr Chua will emerge from the ashes of this fiasco.

CSL’s closing remarks shows that he is indeed an arrogant sort of person for which he richly earned dislikes.

  • I think we should get the PKFZ scandal documented for the easy understanding by the people and have it easily available in the Net and in the form of DVD’s distributed in the manner of the Dr Chua’s case. Then see if Dr Ling or Chan CK have the balls to explain to the public and whether certain newspapers would carry the news in the manner they came down on Dr Chua. I think we do not need a public demonstration as some have proposed but can orchestrate a building up of the momentum of public address and discourse of the PKFZ scandal, linked with and riding on the momentum of the Dr Chua’s case, from now and I am sure it would be a ripe issue to talk about in the GE. People would then see the gravity and size of the matter by comparing it with the other big financial scandals and to other statistics eg how many low cost houses or scholarships could have been purchased or made, compare it with the Dr Chua’s case as to accountability of public servant, the inconsistency of Pak Lah’s decisions and actions vis-a-vis his subordinates etc, etc. That, I think, would be a more effective campaign than a public display of feelings. I think many ordinary people do not understand the PKFZ issue and do not comprehend how it benefitted certain small group of people at the people’s expense. Certain effort at educating them on this issue would help in their political awareness.
Dr Chua, if you are reading this comment, maybe you could help by giving some more inside information on the PKFZ matter. You are a believer in the principle of accountability. Continue to reflect that belief by exposing issues and scandals which directly affect the people. After all, as you can see from comments in blogs and the support shown to you in Batu Pahat, though you have committed a wrong, you still command the support and respect for your courageous act of confession and resignation. That is what the people want – fair play and accountability – and you can help them have that. You are still a political force to be reckoned with by the ‘black hands’ and the ‘holier than thou’ in the MCA because despite your indiscretion and certain seemingly arrogant remarks, you are generally and widely regarded as a very good Minister. I suppose that the MCA big boys did not foresee that you could still garner the kind of support shown to you in Batu Pahat and elsewhere. Maybe they thought they could just annihilate you completely. Even if they did not have a hand in the DVD, they did not come out to fully support you like Samy Vellu did to Vijandran. Samy fought all the way to protect Vijandran until he could fight no more. You have no future in the MCA anymore and you may as well work in and for the interest of the people. Have the MCA big boys standing on their toes, anxiously and fearfully waiting for the bombs that you would let off…play games with them and maybe life would become more funny, bearable and meaningful for you again. But more importantly, think about how you can help Malaysia and Malaysians from sinking further into the abyss of corruptions of the bigger scale, not the petty ones committed by e.g. police constables which of course are still important to nip. Think of Malaysia and Malaysians, not just MCA and its members. Expose them who are no good for the sake of all Malaysians, especially the Chinese. Start with the PKFZ scandal. You can do it and you should as there is now nothing for you to lose.

i do agree that dr chua a little bit arrogant here. perhaps, he could to better with some humility. i don’t  think he felt remorseful over what had happened. He is still very proud and stuck -up. It PAYS to be honest. Perhaps , had you been honest all the way , you would not have to face your downfall. don’t abuse honesty for your own gain and try to get public sympathy. it just doesn’t work this way. Despite all his flaws , i still think that dr chua is a great leader. He still commands my respect, way above OKT and CKC. the so-called representatives of chinese malaysians, Pak turuts, don’t even dare to ruffle any feathers.  At least, dr lim keng yaik got more guts. now that dr chua is not bound to any parties, he should expose those in power instead esp in the PKFZ scandal.

    The basic premise is wrong.

If you get caught by the police for speeding, can you tell the policeman not to issue you a ticket by pointing out to him that there are other offenders that got away? Or, can you even say that to the judge?

The fact that there are other offenders who have not been caught does not mean that you are allowed to do it with impunity.

Get this right the first time. A wrong is a wrong. Two wrongs don’t make a right!

I am sure the good doctor knows this.

Can any learned lawyer enlighten me

I remember reading somewhere that performing ORAL SEX is a crime and if proven the jail sentence can go up to 20 years with whipping. Is it true ka?

Is it true that the CSL sex video showed CSL being ORALL-ED while lying on the bed during the foreplay?

If all is true, then is it not an obvious crime? I wonder why there is neither investigation nor questioning or charges filed by the polis.

Our PM very loudly said No One Is Above The Law.
Another daylight hypocrisy? Or the powers of politics at work?
