Sex tape: Chua Soi Lek resigns
Tuesday, January 1st, 2008 | 4:37 pm @ SK
[UPDATED VERSION] Malaysiakini’s SMS alert 3:37pm
Sex scandal: Health Minister Chua Soi Lek announced that he is resigning from all party and government posts effective immediately.
The Star has a story here.
[UPDATED VERSION at 10:35am, 2 January 2008] The Star’s SMS alert at 10:30am
MCA Presidential council to meet today at 5pm to decide the fate of Health Minister Chua Soi Lek who is embroiled in sex scandal
[ORIGINAL VERSION at 4:37pm, 1 January 2008] Health Minister Chua Soi Lek admits he is the politician in the sex DVD circulating in Johor and that girl is his personal friend, hence confirmed earlier speculation of the "alleged national senior politician" caught in the video.
He apologised to the Malaysian public, supporters and his colleagues.
Thats about it? To say that a simple apologize is going to put an end to the case, it seems to oversimplify the circumstance. Be it internal or external pressures, his political career is as good as over.
So, barring any unforeseen intervention from the top, what’s his next step?
Is he going to resign? No! He said he will let Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to decide his fate.
Is the party MCA he is now representing will take punitive measure and removes him from the power seat to deter bad fanfare? Unlikely, MCA president Ong Ka Ting wants to be seen as a good guy and he is expected to get PM as the chairman of the ruling coalition to make a decision on behalf of him.
Is the act going to create negative repercussion on how MCA is really going to fare in this coming General Election, given the party’s already tarnished reputation among the Chinese community which is predicted to lose a few seats to the Opposition parties?
Either way, it’s a lose-lose situation to both MCA and Barisan Nasional. The damage is done and there is only a way out for Chua, which is to step down from both the party and the cabinet before more negative publicity made their way to the people, especially Chinese communities who is always extra-sensitive towards such a disgraceful behavior.
However, the focus is now on Pak Lah, let’s see how swift he is going to make the call, otherwise a protract decision on this matter or a no-go decision for Chua is not going to go down well with the rest of Barisan component parties, which I believe is going to allow Opposition camps to have an additional issue to harp on his poor judgement and leadership.

Chua: I’m the one in sex videoHealth Minister Chua Soi Lek today openly admitted that he was the person featured in a video depicting a man having sex with a woman purportedly in a hotel room.
Chua, 60, who is also MCA vice-president, made the confession at a press conference this afternoon in his parliamentary constituency in Labis, Johor.
However, he said that he will not resigned as minister but will instead let Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to decide on his fate.
The senior MCA leader, who is married with three children, also said that the 30-something woman featured in the video clip was a "personal friend".
“I am the man in the tape. The girl is a personal friend,” said Chua.
He emphasised that he did not make the tape himself.
“Who have done this is not important. What is most important is that my family, wife and children have accepted my apology,” he added.
Chua said he had met with Abdullah as well as Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and MCA president Ong Ka Ting to “personally apologised to them”.
“I appeal to the press to give me and my family some space during this difficult time.”
Wife backs Chua
Over the past three days, the Chinese dailies have reported that free DVDs - allegedly showing the politician in various sexual antics with a woman - were first distributed in Muar and later, Batu Pahat and Seremban.
The scandal first broke on Saturday when copies of the DVD were anonymously placed in various streets in Muar town for people to collect. Some copies were even distributed by unknown individuals to a number of shops in the area.
Meanwhile, Chua’s wife Wong Sek Hin released a statement in support of his embattled husband in the wake of the sex video scandal.
She said that Chua had apologised to her and the family for his sexual indiscretion.
“It is a difficult time for all of us but we have accepted his regret and apology,” she added.
“He has been a good husband, father and family man who have never shirked his responsibilities.
“We know that it will be difficult during this time but we will go through this together as a family and will support him.”
Two video clips
According to those who have watched the tape, there were two separate DVDs depicting the alleged sex act purportedly recorded using closed circuit television (CCTV).
The first DVD lasting 56 minutes showed the entire sexual act from four different camera angles showing the bed, main door and living room.
Labelled as ‘(name of politician deleted) rapes and threatens woman’, a man can be seen walking into a room believed to be in a hotel and engages in sex with apparently a woman in her 30s.
Meanwhile, the second disc lasting 44 minutes was labelled ‘(name of politician deleted) sex video’ and featured the same sex act from a sole stationary camera that zoomed on the bed.
The couple can be seen in the video speaking in the Hokkien dialect.
The video clip begins with the alleged politician in the room taking a shower and changing clothes. A woman later knocks on the door and is seen entering the room. The couple appears to know each other.
The video then shows the woman taking out a laptop and placed it on the bed, and then going into the bathroom and emerging later naked.
The woman then performs oral sex on the alleged politician and this is followed by sexual intercourse on bed. The couple appears to be watching something on the laptop during their sexual act.
Long political career
Chua, a trained psychologist, began his medical career as a government doctor in 1974 before moving into private practice two years later.
Chua, who hailed from Johor, was first elected state assemblyman for Penggaram in his home state in 1986. He held the state seat for 18 years – winning it in four consecutive general elections.
He was a Johor executive councilor for 14 years from 1990 to 2004.
He moved to federal-level politics at the 2004 general elections when he was picked to run for Labis, a parliamentary constituency near Segamat which was vacated by outgoing MCA chief Dr Ling Liong Sik.
He was also picked by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as health minister, a much-coveted cabinet post, soon after the general elections.
From there, Chua moved up the party hierarchy at lighting speed – he bagged the second highest number of votes to become one of the party’s four vice-presidents in 2005.

Well, to me, this is another political motive to attack your opposition.
The one who record the tape should get caught too. (Intrusion the privacy of the public)
Too bad our Dr Chua Soi Lek just like a proverb says, “Hero cannot pass the beauty level”
January 1st, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Hey,
Isn’t this the arse who said, "medical mistakes are inevitable" to Baby Yok Shan who has her arm amputated thanks to hospital negligence?
Karma’s a bitch eh, Sorhai Lek?

Another blow to the famous Malaysia politic front….what is happening?? Pak lah must fire him for the good of all parties. This shows how deep the core of indecency goes….

January 1st, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Yay, soi lek. You really have balls. Not just for doing it, but for admitting it. Big balls at that
January 1st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Well… i think the confession is good so that he doesnt make the malaysians look stupid by denying it. Good and responsible… Seriously.. I think he doesnt have to wait for pak lah to make decisions for him. What do you expect him to say…Well done, stay on! Come on , just step down and get on with life… I’m not being judgemental here, but be realistic… As human being, we all make mistakes. In his case.. he is not just another guy on the street, but a minister, the representative of the people who suppose to have good values and morals. Maybe this is his turning point… to be a better husband and father. Everything happens for a reason.
January 1st, 2008 at 7:29 pm
i salute him.
January 1st, 2008 at 7:37 pm
I dont know whether to pity him or despise him… He was definitely wrong in the first place to commit such a despicable act. But if he is just an ordinary man, this would not blow out of proportion like this and no one would tape him or distribute any dvds.
Then again, if he dint commit such acts there wouldn’t be any dvds to distribute either. Any married man who seeks affair out of their marriage bed should be punished. Not like he dint hav a wife to release his sexual tension… pity his wife and children.

January 1st, 2008 at 8:06 pm
yeah nobody perfect. But politician must be example for rakyat.
January 1st, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Right, nobody is perfect!
Unfortunately, the public demands nothing short of moral fortitude when in comes to cabinet ministers.
I suppose whether he was set up or not is immaterial. Yes, all have double standards when it comes to people in power. The fact that he was having such an affair is something the general public cannot accept. Thats the reality of politics.
I wonder how many more sets up can we get - perhaps to catch someone with the initials KJ ?
January 1st, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Hey M’sian this is his private life. If nobody put the camera in the room. Do u think this DVD is out in the market. Another thing is any of our ministers in m’sia is so faithfull and clean. January 1st, 2008 at 10:31 pm
His name is soiled. He has lost all credibility.
He should no longer remain a MP much less a minister. As a Malaysian he really embarass me.

This is his private life, nothing to do with his career. No one is perfect. I solute him. He is second Bill Clinton…..
January 1st, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Good of him to admit early. After all, there is no other way as the tape was quite obvious. But he should have resigned to hold his dignity.

You have to understand, this man is already 60 years old. [DELETED BY SK] Memanglah, he wants to fulfill his sexual fantasies before he’s too old to do it. Fantasies that he never get to have when he was 20s, 30s, or 40’s. [DELETED BY SK]

January 2nd, 2008 at 3:34 am
‘Dr Chua said he will not resign over the sex DVDs. He will leave that up to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to decide."
He admits he’s a moral moron, by not knowing his responsibility as a national leader and the difference between right from wrong. with this standard line of a Clingon, is he indicating that adultery is permissible as long as you can afford it? As long as it is acceptable to BN/UMNO, anything can never be wrong? Isn’t any leader supposed to set a good example?
Sure his political enemies invaded his privacy but they’re also the whistle blowers. But how else could the dirt have surfaced? Don’t think every ordinary man committing the same sort of act. would be so similarly exposed, if the effort isn’t worth it.
Already as it stands, he isn’t a particularly admired leader for his utterances of the past as an apologist to UMNO etc. He has appeared to be insensitive and unpleasant unlike his predecessor. Not surprising if he’s not even well liked. Soi and deserved.
January 2nd, 2008 at 4:03 am
Don’t take a part of other person’s business just watch what will happend next and leave it to god, god will know to handle.
January 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 am
The confessions appeared only AFTER the discs were distributed. One wonders how forthright he would be if no such recordings were made.
January 2nd, 2008 at 8:34 am
Just read the morning papers and burst in laughter..just when I think else can made my day.. XD
January 2nd, 2008 at 9:35 am
To those who says that having sex isn’t a crime, does that make prostitution legal? I mean it is two people having consensual sex with one party agreeing to pay. How about school going children having sex? I bet these teenagers agree to have sex with each other in the first place. That’s not a crime too? *sigh* Seriously, your logic and moral standing is atrocious. Don’t go around saying it’s normal human behavior to have sex when and where ever you want; no matter the consequences. Stop thinking with your libido and start using your brains for once. Now imagine how would you feel if you were the one cheated upon? Knowing that your wive/girlfriend/etc is doing the ‘horizontal hoedown’ with someone else other than you sorry behind? People with this kind of mentality is what’s bringing down the moral standards of our society.
In CSL’s case, technically he wasn’t committing a crime according to the Malaysian law. Thus he isn’t punishable by law. But what he did was an immoral act. Something that belies the characteristic of what a leader should be and for that he should face the consequences of his acts. He should man up to his actions by stepping down. A simple "I’m sorry" just won’t do.
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:15 am
malaysia could even had an adulterous minister…yeah malaysia boleh
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:18 am
This is just what in PR call a "disaster reduction" exercise. Of course being caught on tapes is bad but the worse is to deny any involvement especially when everybody have seen the tapes.
OK .. CSL next step :
1. Resign
2. Sue the Hotel for taping the bedroom drama
3. Bring whole family for overseas trip to relax and get away from whole thing.
4. Go back to private medical practice
5. Set up a nursery or kindergarten centre for that lady.
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 am
We support you!
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:42 am
I puked when "God" said "But having it is just another part of our life that god gave u human beings."
He should resign.
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:42 am
I agree with Wits0 that CSL is a very insensitive and unpleasant man, from his remarks to the poor girl’s father who got her arm amputated.
Serves CSL right for the dirt that surfaced!!! Down with MCA…
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:48 am
Frankly speaking, i salute him that he’s brave enough to admit all these and apologized Looking back, how many of those senior people dare to do so when something happened in their own department?I guess as malaysian’s culture, none of them will do so,but in fact they are very good in playing ‘ tai chi’ . Maybe here’s the darkness of the political world. This is their privacy life and shouldnt be linked to their career part. Do we know how many of those senior ministers having more than a wife?Is just they r lucky as no1 show it out.
CSL is a good minister, what we can see is the improvement in the medical line. This is what we malaysian want for the country.Nobody is perfect. If he lost his position due to this, i think its really not fair.
January 2nd, 2008 at 10:55 am
The public should demand a higher standard of conduct from society’s leaders and most definitely from our ministers! Yes, we all have our moral failings, but if someone steps up to public office, that person is expected to lead by example. Public leaders are meant to show us the way to behave through their own behaviour.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:05 am
Agree with KITT, he got no choice but to admit. The video is so obvious. Brilliant exit strategy though. A true politician till the end.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:08 am
Positively, he got the gut 2 confess!
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:12 am
He ask for it!!!
It is totally insulting since he is holding Health Ministry position.
I know NOBODY is perfect!!! Why we need leader? Because he must be someone who has strong determination minded, knows to weigh their actions and speeches.
Physically , Enviromentally , Physiologically Health ministry has the responsibilities and obligations to create awareness among WHOLE MALAYSIAN.
But MENTALLY and MORALLY also important.
Stepping down sure is ineveitable. Better you resign yourself before people ask you to.
Tell me, how do you face this society even nobody ask you to resign?!!!
Your lustful face will always on people mind whenever people see you and hear your name. IT is likely A HUMAN WEARING LUSTFUL FOX MASK.
There is so many capable , respectful candidate outside to sit this position!!
THIS IS ISLAMIC COUNTRY , NOT AMERICA OR TAIWAN!
YOUR CONFESSION DOES NOT MAKE YOU TO BE SOMEBODY like Bill Clinton Or ITS MY LIFE in Bon JovI Songs.
You REPRESENT Malaysia.
[DELETED by SK]
No strong self dicipline, irresposible , impulsiveness, childish!
Do you want this type of person to be your health minister?
Sometimes there is no second chance in certain life path!!!
Especially Politic.
Thanks.

SO… 1) The issue might now be "Intrusion into ones privacy"
SO… 1) It is ok to have sex outside marriage (as long as it is held in privacy).
SO… 3) Health wise, If a health minister can do it, i am sure we can do it too.
SO… 2) It is just ‘Soi Siaw" being caught on video. That’s all.
SO… 3) Can you imagine how many other X prior to this? (un-videoed)
SO… 4) Expect us to believe "it is a personal friend" not a pro
SO… 5) Sorry la, this one is too clear and obvious, otherwise..another inquiry.
SO… 6) Good luck to those out there "yet to be videoed"
SO… 7) Wives…..If one like SL can do it, what makes you think yours…?
SO… 8) You can be charged when you prove a "wrong". Be carefull !!
SO… 9) Ok….Who is next?
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:51 am
I’m not sure if some of the above comments were made by CSL’s friends or himself…. but admitting does not make him brave or responsible when hundreds of copies being distributed in Johor and soon in KL and Penang with his face all over it… what do you expect him to say, do a Shaggy "IT WASN’T ME!". C’mon, stop being so naive…. in terms of human rights, yes it was violated by the ones who place the camera, but hey, he got caught because of being a known politician. He knows the risk and I’m quite sure this was not the first time, how else one would plan a hidden cam and a particular room and at a particular time!!! My real sympathy goes to the "other" people who were using the room before and after which might be "accidental actors/actresses" of being there at the wrong place at the wrong time !!! Now that is Privacy Human Rights Violation.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:54 am
Too bad he is sabotaged. That is private affair, not my business. But now it becomes public affair, it is everybody’s business.
I think even if he is not fired and if he doesn’t want to resign. He will still voluntarily do so because the society at large will not accept him unreservedly.
This is Malaysia…… Divorce is on the rise but yet still not common. This is a country where there is no pornographic circulated in the bright day light, not like Singapore where media promotes soft porn (to take off the stresses of society). This is the country where censorship even axed away kissing scene.
This is not USA.
To me, as a normal citizen, it doesn’t really matter who becomes health minister. Seriously.
Of course, I would prefer a capable person. Period.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:55 am
What a way to start a new year. I think he has done a lot of good for the country and its people. Politic has its dark side. Most people can only remember the mistakes that you’ve done and forget everything else. I think he is a good minister too. No one is perfect. Very careless of him.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:58 am
If Ah Lek’s action is above board, Vijendran ought to sue for damages today because his privacy has been violated by the court(his acts were done at home, it seemed and moreover and the video was part of a private collection).
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Take a page from other politicians Datuk Sri.It is OK if you are from the biggest party(but have to resign all ministerial and party post), it is not Ok if you are the speaker, you will be jailed if you are the opposition or turned opposition, whatever it is I salute a man who has sought forgiveness from his family first first and cares not who did it but the consequence to his party.Let him who is sinless cast the first stone.Take heed all who brays for his blood for he has not committed any criminal act as she is 30+ years old, consenting, andthey are not subject to islamic personal law.Other cases allegedly involving politicians relates to criminal acts of underaged participants, homosexual sex acts and allegedly making a X rated video(self filming)

I would say Pakistan is ‘luan’, but Malaysia is ‘Keng’ cos they have all kind of news to surprise the whole world. This is what the prime minister use to say "MALAYSIA BOLEH", really boleh in anythings.
Lastly, I am very appreciate of the hard work of the hotel staffs for sharing the DVD.
Thanks

What Chua Soi Lek did was not illegal. What he does in to his body in a room is his own business. it is between him and God. There are millions of people doing it. Nobody should intrude into someone’s else bedroom, let alone made a copy of VCDs and distribute them to the public. it is the most despicable act. Imagine, if this happens to all of us. Who are we, to be so judgemental and to stand on moral high grounds. Have we not committed any sins in our life ? Is it what the Jesus who says ‘ show me a person who never commit any sin, i will throw diamonds at him’. CSL has been a very good and caring minister. he is very articulate in BM, English and Mandrin. if he steps down, Malaysia will lose a very capable minister. As a Johorean, I am very dissappointed of what happens to him. I always believe Johore politicians are clean, capable and sophisticated. Alas, it is going to be. However, we must separate his private from public life. Long live CSL and good luck.
January 2nd, 2008 at 1:16 pm
If he had let the cat out of the bag and apologised for his sex act two years ago then it was up to the public to accept his apology for being a gentleman. Now, we have been decieved by this tough talking politician who is no longer deemed fit to occupy any position in the cabinet and in his party. Moral values are important values in our Malaysian culture. We are ashamed by your arrogant act. Enough from you. We cannot stand proud to have a leader like you in this Country and party anymore. The whole world knows about it now. Power and position is nothing without respect from us. Nobody want to kick you out. But, you ask for it. Next time think and think and think before you do anything even with your personal friends. Grow up and stray no more. Be a good husband and father after this. We expect leaders to have strong moral values as a prerequiste in future.

Aduh malangnya……
Lepas ni bolehla pak-pak menteri buat salah lepas office hours dengan alasan itu kehidupan peribadi saya dan tiada kena mengena dengan tugas saya sebagai pemimpin atau ahli kabinet… hampeh

Chua is the one who was caught. Morality is a main issue when you are a leader. OK he admitted and no, sex is not a crime even if it’s adultery. Grounds for divorce only. That all OK by me.
But what is unbelievable is the stupidity shown by some of these BN leaders who publicly support him. I know it’s fine to support a friend who is in problem. But this? Come on, wake up and better to keep their mouths shut and say that’s this is his personal affair. Least said better but stupid support would only open floodgates to questions on what these so-called leaders stand for in terms of morality and leadership by example.
Whoa………! Shut up-lah

People image is judged by how he/she look 50%, how he/she sound 40 %, how he/she speak 10%.
This is life.
Of course a lot of people having affairs privately and secretly. They were lucky not being video taped or being caught.
I can say that he was being unfortunate to be videotaped.
No matter what explainations, all the evidences were concretely been seen.
And predictablely this postion is no longer for him. He must accept it.
If he is just ordinary person without any High Profiled Position. Having Affair with anyone is none of our businesses.
Do you really think so?
If everybody say this is his personal life, it is just does not relate to his duties. Why newspaper have his updated news and pictures on the newspaper Locally and Even now Globally.
If you would like to find a Professional teacher to our young generation, he has bad demeanors and attitudes. Will you choose him to teach your son and daughters?
Of course for those who put the camera illegally, they do not have moral values. Hopefully the involved authorities must take actions and enforcement in order to prevent same incident from happening on next unlucky victim.
Emphathetically, i pitied him. Because this video tape is considered as intrusion.
Morally, it is totally unacceptable in no time flat.
Globally, our country reputation had been affected.
Can you imagine when foreigner know your country name by this Politician Sex Scandalous issue?
How do you feel? Do you feel proud or insulted since we proud to be Malaysian because of our cultures?
But what we focus now is the Minister personalities and attitidudes. And its effect to our coming generations.
He must know what is he doing. If the camera is there, but he never been there to have sex with young girl. This video tape also cannot be produced.
Universally, peoples, location, timing, and "chances" all come at the same time. I can say that he was very unlucky.
Actually, both CSL and those who put Camera illegally have their responsiblities to solve this shameful issue which seriously affect our country.
People need to bear the consequences and take charge on what they had done.
Old phrase " Reap what you sow" is very true here.

I notice certain comments are nasty and show disrespect towards Dr. Chua and his family and I’ll not allow such comments to go through.
Please exercise self refrain, thank you.

and… so.. he resign already..
all the best to CSL
January 2nd, 2008 at 3:58 pm
He should resign. No two ways about it. If the DVD was never found out, he’s lucky, he can carry on his nonsense, outside his marriage and family. That’s the personal path he chooses to take.
But for what’s about morality, responsibility and integrity we expect of leaders of the country, he should think twice before doing all that.
Personally, he should just kiss his career bye-bye.
January 2nd, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Well, at last a great (not the greatest) leader has ceased, I wonder how many MCA out there is as brave as him who dare to speak.
Well this is a democratic country, if you think it is right, you can always show your support with your point of view, but not to insult people and asking the others to shut up (BN ad ministry always do that?)
I totally agreed with DAP Lim Guan Eng point of view for this, if you can read mandarin.

He should resign. No two ways about it. If he wasn’t found out, he can carry on his nonsense. No one’s perfect, seemingly the saying goes. I just pity the wife and kids.
But it’s about morality, responsibility and integrity the nation expects from leaders of the country. Not that we are ‘holier than thou’ kinda’ of attitude, but about the kind of government leaders we have. It never ceases to amaze me. We have a bunch of government clowns, every now and then, it’s amazing.
Uncle Chua - just pack and leave, okay !
January 2nd, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Ok .. so step one is done already.
Next is to sue the Hotel, this will be done after all the necessary Police investigations is completed, should include an interview with that Lady.
After that will be to go somewhere away from all this, no need to do CNY Open House this year.
Time is a healer, over the period people will understand all these, the hazards of being a Minister. When all things cool down CSL cannot just sit around doing nothing, open up a small business, a Clinic maybe.
And we must not forget that Lady, advise her to get married.
January 2nd, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Please leave this man alone. He has suffered enough. He is a victim even though he has urge to have sex with younger woman. She was willing. Mutual consent, man.
The one equally wrong is the person who set up the camera. Unless the woman was paid to catch him red-handed.
Lesson for eveyone here - DON’ TRUST ANYONE!!!!

Dont be too harsh on him. We are all human beings. We are not infallible.Bear in mind he is the best minister in Pak Lah’s cabinet as he brought a lot of improvements to the Health Ministry. Also one of the handful Chinese Ministers who speaks immaculate English and Bahasa Malaysia. Dont pass judgements too harsly for it could happen to you and me. Instead pray that the family will overcome this difficult period.

First time in my memory that a Minister or senior civil servant has confessed and resigned so quickly or at all after a scandal concerning him is exposed. He may have his shorcomings and he is as human as every one else. Resignation is not an option though but I salute him for taking the right move. He is about the best Health Minister we had, say what you may about his arrogance. My heart aches for him. Such a poignant fall almost equalling that of Anuar Ibrahim. But the man has confessed, apologised and resigned. Quite a man to do that. And hopefully, his quick resolve and willingness to resign would set an example to the other Ministers or politician to do the same and stall and stop the present culture not to be accountable to the people. If this episode can instill certain sense of public accountability into our politicians, Chua Soi Lek would have not suffered in vain. Chua, pick up the pieces and go on with your life. Your family still needs you. Madam Mrs Chua, really forgive him and spare him further misery. He has done right now to the Malaysian people even if he had committed a wrong before. No one is perfect. I hope this chapter of his life would end quickly.
January 2nd, 2008 at 7:04 pm

January 2nd, 2008 at 7:08 pm
right, sue the hotel . What he did was a crime of passion and it was mutual. Why blame Dr Chua alone? The worst culprits are the ones who took the shots in private. people’s privacy , you know. Blacklist the hotel and don’t ever patronise it .

*nods* Okay, he didn’t mean it. (Who does anyway?)
*nods* Okay, he didn’t know he was being filmed.
*nods* Okay, he said he was framed.
Aw… poor dude….
But…….. as the saying goes, “If the cow doesn’t want to drink, you can never force its head down.”
*tsk tsk tsk*
The people who suffers most now because of his “mistake” are his family. I think we can literally see them being ridiculed, insulted, questioned, blamed and interrogated over his actions.

January 2nd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
a guy!,
U make it sound as if by quoting a few Chinese characters, u have not a stain in your character!
Make me laugh, if that is the case, most, if not all, government ministers should be sacked! And the Chinese emperors & ministers in the past should not have been in their high positions in the first place.
Nobody is condoning his behaviour or moral conduct, but to moralise as if u could do no wrong or most politicians are morally upright is just downright naive.
Whether he should be sacked or not is completely irrelevant, but whether his position is tenable or not after his private affair is now out in the open for all to see is another thing. Yes, anyone with a sense of pride & dignity should resign. In my book, no politician is ever stain-free. Full stop!

Scatter Brainer
Why blame the one who took the shots? He should be commended and reimbursed for all his expenses. It’s a dirty job but somebody got to do it. The government with the support of the opposition is initiating the ‘whistle blower’ act, I guess it’s long overdue. Just imagine if CSL gets to be the MCA president and appears to a few ‘young personal friends’? So better uncover now than later.

No question about it. He has to go. This is to restore the dignity of MCA & BN, facing the coming election. He should however go down fighting.

Some people harped on the baby incident and the compensation amount. You really think it was CSL’s sole decision? How naive. They think there are more important things to spend on such as inter alia, sending someone to outer space for a holiday and thinking of sending another one soon, buying helicopters that cannot fly and building resort homes for exco members, serious.

everybody has been making a big fuss bout this DVD case just bcos he was a high ranked minister. it is pretty much obvious that most of ppl only focus more on his flaws rather than what he has contributes to the country; perfection is fake.
yes, he should be condemned for what he had done(having an affair with a ‘personal friend’ when he has a ‘closely-knit’ family back home). however, i think that this has done more damage to his family rather to himself. and why the hell is there a camera installed in the hotel room?! and the psycho ones isn’t the one selling the DVDs but the ones who buy them. curiosity my ass, u maniacs
definitely the crappiest year for the family(isn’t it, Chua?) & to think tht it’s the best year for the Chinese.
he shall be forgiven but not forgotten for what he has done.
and again guys, i would like to point out, who is the real victim? him or his family?
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:01 pm
He has no choice but to step down for the sake of the country. But personally I salute him for having courage in admitting it. Apart from being morally wrong, I think many of you out there have overlooked his other positive values of being responsible, honest etc., values that cannot be seen in our politicians anymore!
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:12 pm
naive,
I fully agreed with you. As an example, Clinton wasn’t that cleaned morally during his tenure, but the administration under his leadership was definitely more capable and effective than the current Bush administration.
a guy,
your ancient chinese philosophy will leave no one to lead and run this country!!!

I strongly got the feeling that they are actually taping their act. That is why the laptop is on the bed and they were seen to look at the laptop in numerous occassions. I.e. They know that there are cameras in that room. Who in the right mind would check their inbox or the stock markets while humping.: roll eyes;
Nuff said I thing Mr Chua has done something really really stupid in his life. Taping his sexual endevour with other than his wife. Actually there is no conspiracy, no back stabbing, only personal tape get leaked into the net.
Morale of the story, when bonking woman other than your wife, do not tape take pictures or anything like that..

but i do have to admit that at his age, he can put a lot of younger guys in shame with his prowess.

January 3rd, 2008 at 6:30 pm
wow… so many discriminating views… no wonder he resigns. It’s true, he made a mistake, a very grave one too. But it is also true that we Malaysians are not worthy to judge him nor sentence him.
This matter, when you really think bout it, is between Dr Chua, his wife, his family and God. And if God can forgive, who are we to say we can’t? Are our morality really so high?
True, we should try to uphold a higher morality, but we are also humans, and there will be times when we make mistakes and we will want to seek absolution.
And in this matter he has try his best to make amends, I believe. He has admitted he made a very big mistake, he apologised, and he did what he can to appease everyone, to the extend that he resigned all his posts in as short a time as can be. What else do you who condemmed him want? Kill himself?
In my opinion, those who have committed grave wrongs but have regretted it and have tried to make amends for it should not only be given a second chance, but be applauded for it. Indeed, to God, it is the lost sheep who has returned that He treasured above all.
All those who condemned him, you owe him an apology, I believe, for it is not for you to judge and condemned. It is for God. And if even his wife and family can accept it, then I think we should all accept it too.
In fact, I believe if all Malaysians were to be united and call for the resignation to be canceled and Dr Chua be put back on the post, it would be an even better move than having another person there.
Why? Because then he will be so touched and grateful that I believe he would do an even better job at the post than anyone ever can! And if after this second chance he still commit the same mistake, then you can all call him off!
Think about it, isn’t it a better move than to have a new person on the seat, whose ability we do not know yet, who might do even worse than whatever Chua has done? who might be even more arrogant than Chua?
Chua has shown that he is a man who, although with faults, dare to admit it and is ready to be punished for it. Isn’t it time for Malaysians to show that Malaysia can also forgive? I thought Malaysia Boleh is our slogan…. or is it Malaysia Tak Boleh?
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:38 pm
To Dr Chua,
In fact,I pity u. We really dissapointed at u as u’ve let us,Chinese down. So far, for the past so many yrs. No one as daring as u 2 confront Samy Vellu over the troubled Johor hospital. U r the most righteous minister,Chinese minister that we’ve ever seen so far in the country. Yr resignation is really a lost for M’sia, another capable, workable, speakable minister. Chinese has lost another powerful voice/minister in the parliament who still have his consscience.
Thumbs up 4 u! U brave enough 2 abmit yr own mistake instantly & put an immediate stop on the cut. This is really what the M’sian want 2 hear.
M’sian, pls wake up! Did we hear any apologize so far since so many things happended recently?
Dr Chua is not the 1st person who commit the same mistake. How abt the oth MCA leader in Johor who commit the same sex affair just 1 yr ago?Did anything happen 2 him?Did he resign fr all his post? How abt the oth UMNO leaders who also have some private affairs which yet 2 reveal? How abt the killer of young mongolian girl?
Come on!Let’s think further. Why do all of the sudden the arising Star in the party will suffer fr such thing?
Wake up!His private affair is really nothing 2 do with his work. Just imagine, will u resign fr yr work just b’cos u have sex with 3rd party?

I really pity Dr Chua. He has done a lot for the country. Many of the ministers are also living a double life , womanising here and there. it is just that they are lucky enough not to be caught. .I think he shouldn’t resign. it is a loss to the country. Lobak, it sounds much like he was shown the door. "Honorable", here, being a relative measure.
Who are the "holier than thou people", he is referring to? Surely he didn’t mean the Jakim sorts(would he dare?). The people who showed him the door, perhaps? He can’t really mean the faceless others in the public who felt he should go for they actually have little clout to prevent his staying.

Its has been a SAD state for Malaysian Chinese politic from the 90s until present.
As far as I could recall…there’s no “Bruce Lee” type of icons for us to look up to.
3 major parties representing the Chinese majority are all in a SAD state.
NCA - de uhmNO puppet
Movement - a motionless party with KSK in the helm only make it worst…look at Pg
Rocket - a directionless party with ah Siang there forever n ever
Lets look at yr young kids…spend time to mould them as real future leaders succeeding all the people we have now. 20yrs ! Then we’ll be having a country to be proud of.
To my Chinese friends, forget about politics for now, its a waste of time…make LOVE not WAR !
It would be lovely to have a population of 40% Cina by 2030…

the other politicians are just like the scribes and the pharisees of the bible, ever ready to point out and condemn others’ mistakes but oblivious to their own bigger flaws. As though, they live an upright life (konon)!! how many leaders have admitted their mistakes openly ?? none! some even said "what is wrong , is wrong," Macam la si dia itu tak pernah buat wrong" ha,ha … my toes are laughing. so now the parliament will be filled with useless , brainless idiots who talk of nothing but air asia ’s stewardesses costumes and women’s monthly mestruation. and do you think dtk ong ka ting can do a good job as a health minister ?? moral of the story is that politics is a dirty game so stay out of it.

I agree with Scatter_brainer after all the morality debates and condemnation, What’s next? We’ve been had again. We, the Malaysians. All so consumed by emotions all. What’s next? More ‘yes’ men on board to stay out of trouble, no ruffles of feathers, no nobody’ll stand up to make sense, nobody will stand up for us. There’ll be more men in space for holidays, more white elephants, more tax payers heartache, more dumb topics and more whale sharks. We are all in trouble. Datuk Seri Dr Chua is way ahead of time. The Malaysian political environment and perhaps Malaysians are not ready for him. His arrogance may be his candid way to deal with stupidity and shallowness. Nobody wins. Get real.

Copied from my comments in another blog where there was a suggestion that we organise another demonstration on the PKFZ scandal:
I think we should get the PKFZ scandal documented for the easy understanding by the people and have it easily available in the Net and in the form of DVD’s distributed in the manner of the Dr Chua’s case. Then see if Dr Ling or Chan CK have the balls to explain to the public and whether certain newspapers would carry the news in the manner they came down on Dr Chua. I think we do not need a public demonstration but can orchestrate a building up of the momentum of public address and discourse of the PKFZ scandal, linked with and riding on the momentum of the Dr Chua’s case, from now and I am sure it would be a ripe issue to talk about in the GE. People would then see the gravity and size of the matter by comparing it to the other big financial scandals and to other statistics eg how many low cost houses or scholarships could have been purchased or made, compare it with the Dr Chua’s case as to accountability of public servant, the inconsistency of Pak Lah’s decisions and actions vis-a-vis his subordinates etc, etc. That, I think, would be a more effective campaign than a public display of feelings. I think many ordinary people do not understand the PKFZ issue and do not comprehend how it benefitted certain small group of people at the people’s expense. Certain effort at educating them on this issue would help in their political awareness.

when i 1st heard abt this news on the radio, walao, wat a shame to Malaysian Chinese!!!
mayb some of you will said this is his personal life, is non of our business…but he ought to know tat he is the Health minister of Malaysia. The leader of Malaysian, the head of his staff, the husband of his wife, the father of his children..he got to think of the consequences on what he is acting.
Mayb he is right, ppl are not as holied as thou…but once u get cought, all is bullshit….nobody will care what you are trying to say now.
i really wonder how true his family can forgive him…he really a BIG SHAME to all Malaysian especially his wife and children.
" After 61 years, i learnt the lesson tat by telling truth it doenst really works. " Oh, Malaysian are not tat stupid.
He admitted that his mistake is to choose the same room and same hotel for their convenience. But we think his mistake is he still think the "same room and same hotel" is the main point that he get caught.

i got this from other website,
"I don’t care if my neighbour has a hundred mistresses but I care if my minister has one that he shouldn’t. The requirements for being a minister comes with responsibilities, and no blameless leader should be afraid of the toughest scrutiny. But the unscrupulous should be on notice."
"Those who harbour the notion Chua acted ‘honourably’ and is a ‘gentleman’ are well-intentioned but misguided. The truth is Chua had no choice but to give up everything. It was a checkmate. He could not make another move except concede defeat."
"I am sick and tired of those who keep repeating the mantra that ‘It is no one’s business if something is done in private’. So it is okay to rape, steal, cheat, etc, if it is done in private? Does not the act itself deserve condemnation, whoever does it? "
"The public does not care how or where or when or why a minister makes love to his wife but it is in the public’s interest if a minister is having hanky panky with another woman. People in positions of public trust and responsibility are not private individuals because they carry heavy responsibilities that private individuals don’t."

HBLim, pls brief me more of the PKFZ scandal , i being a real layman do not really know what the whole scandal is about. Anyway , i think we should put dr chua’s scandal to rest. Let bygones be bygones. But to think of it, i wonder how many of our intimate moments are captured on camera without us knowing it. Harap maaflah, if anyone of us ended up as reluctant porn stars. With so many pressing needs and issues , how can our MP’s still make small talks in parliament? the worst i think is that bung or boink from kinabatangan. Having visited sabah recently, i think the state is riddled with the issue of illegal immigrants especially in tawau and lahad datu. and our dear mr bung could only think of cleavages and leakages. more clowns in the parliament. no wonder they don’t dare to show live telecast of parliamentary sessions. i think budak-budak in kindies talk and make more sense than these dungu old men

Some citizens felt that he was hero in this sex scandal issue just because he could able to admit in public that he was the actor in that movie.
I do believe some peoples had watched that tape.
I heard that the his face was so obvious to be recognised and undeniably it was him.
So do you think he can said that it was not himself?
Instead of denying, why didnt him just admit to win some people mind that he was "Hero" because he admit what he had done not like other?
It was just an illusion and it will psychlogically divert people attentions into his "i did , i dare to admit" concept to get pities and win people hearts. At least he can honorably resign.
His expression such as" honesty does not pay", "i should go and stay in the same room",said to reporter "do you want to watch together with me the movie".
What do you think personally?
"Honest does not at the end"
Does it mean that after having affair, one simple apology and some conferences could just clearly wipe off the incidents.
"I should not go to stay in the same room"
Or did he mean to encourage Malaysian to have affair in different place so that not easy to be caught.
Said to a female reporter "why dont we watch together?"
And somemore, after all these happened, he dared to utter out these above mentioned confessions which were quite shameful and non-respectful to anybody including himself after 62 years living on this Beautiful Earth.
I felt awful and uneasy. He was not a gentleman at all.
Initially, i think he should silence sometimes and need not to give that unprocessed answer although sometimes these questions were provoking.
It will create more critical point and keywords to be debated and his own nature will be revealed out more and more characteristically like his naked body physically shown in the tape.
He was Health Ministry, he should control a bit his emotions as his reputation had been ruined drastically by that tape.
His attidude had made himself to be unfortunate. We should not blame entirely on instruder. If he did not have this type of attidude, there will be no"Hero" exist in that tape.
At least he resigned eventually to save his merely small dignity.
We just see how the next Health Ministry doing his job and wish he can do more than previous Minister and most important to be second "Hero" in future.

We need morally strong leaders, not leaders who do wrong and then "dare to admit" his wrongs. If he were to come clean and wanted to be accepted, he should have come clean two years ago (?) when the affair started and not now after he has been found out!
If a simple admission is okay, thousands of politicians would be queueing for his turn to confess to the public! Let’s face it, Chua Soi Lek, this is not an amnesty! You don’t simply get a public pardon because you dare to admit after you have been found out! Your assumption simply shows how morally bankrupt you are or are you thinking that the public is so moronic that you can get away with it?
Let’s have another hypothetical situation. If you read in the papers that your 30 something daugther has been having sex with a 60 plus politician and that act has been recorded into CDs readily available in the public and the the politician confesses, would you think the politician is still ok? Would you openly back him in a press conference?
The assumed situation and the questions are merely rhethorical and need now answers but I guess the drift is clear.
Sorry, still no pardon. :)

Can any learned Lawyer enlighten me.
As a lay person, I read somewhere that it is a crime to do ORAL SEX and if proven, can be jailed up to 20 years and also whipping. Is it true ka?
Is it true that the CSL Video clip clearly shows CSL being ORAL-ED on the bed. If it is, then this is serious criminal act man!! I wonder why there is no Charge from the Polis when a high ranking politician is involved in oral sex.
Our PM said no one is above the law.

yeah, what kind of crap is that? "looks like me, sounds like me but it is not me" i think that must be his doppleganger !. i guess he is a lawyer enough to know of all the loopholes in the system after all , you are innocent until you are proven guilty. so keep on denying ………until the cows come home. it shows that in our country , anything is possible…that’s the spirit of malaysia boleh. Malaysia apa pun boleh. His dear friend, pula , kept on forgetting

i think we , malaysians , are too free . Some of us, busybodies can go to great lengths taking photographs of people in their most vulnerable moments. These perverts should all be put behind bars for revelling in others’ miseries. . so , what good does it do for us to look at all the gambar bogel? Honestly, all of us need to spend more time in prayer. moral decadence is slowly creeping in
