It’s tough in Malaysia …

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 | 12:32 pm @ SK

Does ACA work for Nazri, Nazri works for ACA or they (both Nazri and ACA) are working together NOT to do the right thing?

This is what happens when ACA reports to the Attorney-General and the Prime Minister, not directly to parliament.

Have we lost confidence on the AG and the PM, overall? You bet.

Who should the ACA report to in order to win back people’s confidence? (e.g. In this case, PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim is more than willing to submit the video to ACA without question as reported by Malaysiakini?)

One good reason

Is the Umno VP more powerful than the President Pak Lah?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007 | 2:50 am @ SK

Quote of the day:

"All of you can leave (PPP). Either today or tomorrow. Why wait until the general election? What’s there to wait for?"

That’s what Umno vice-president Mohd Ali Rustam told People’s Progressive Party (PPP) members during the Malacca PPP annual general assembly as reported by Malaysiakini.

PPP president M Kayveas who was there listening to the speech, feeling disappointed and dejected, finally come to understand the kind power sharing concept by the Barisan Nasional’s government.

So, he cries like a baby for knowing the fact that he or rather his party has been cheated for the past few decades and worse, being humiliated by the #3 in Umno at their home party.

"When PPP was strong in the past, it was asked to join the BN but when it was saddled with problems, it was just forgotten. There is a difference between asking for more seats and asking for our own seats back. […]

"It is not an issue. It’s just a request and a reminder with no ill intentions and this is the right time for the request to be made."

The same goes to other component parties too, if they think they’re good enough to continue to be the partner of UMNO to form the Govenrment, think again. There is a probability that the similar consequence will land on them in the future (IF and only IF BN continues to rule), given the fact that even though those major parties (e.g. MCA, MIC, Gerakan and etc.) are expelled from the current ruling coalition too, UMNO can still form a Government with a 2/3 majority.

Anyway, the show doesn’t end there. A few names consisting of pengecut, kaki bodek and gila are being discussed too. Ask RPK to find out who are they before he migrates.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said when opening PPP’s 54th General Assembly that BN is willing to consider PPP’s request for additional seats in the next GE and said public bickering among them should be avoided.

"There’s no need to put pressure on anybody to meet our demand as we’re all brothers. […] People don’t like to see family members fighting among themselves or instability in the family. We should consult and cooperate among ourselves. Our detractors would love to see us in a state of disunity," he said.

Ironically, that’s contradicted with what’s being said by Ali Rustam the day before. Is Ali Rustam more powerful than the president Pak Lah or the PM is too weak and incapable to control his #3 in Umno?

Either way, PPP is finished, drowned by the power sharing concept, draconian framework laid out and controlled by Umno for many more years to come.

Majulah Singapura! …. with ZAM

Sunday, October 21st, 2007 | 4:00 pm @ SK

In the Press Freedom Index 2007 recently released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), among 169 countries surveyed, Malaysia plunged 32 notches from 92nd in 2006 to 124th in 2007, the worst ranking ever since the annual Press Freedom Index was institutionalised in 2002.

However, Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin a.k.a ZAM is unperturbed and he even speak alongside and singing the similar tune as Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew!

"The freedom preached by them is only rhetoric and their real value is money and for me, the only way to fight the Western values of press freedom is by emulating Lee Kuan Yew’s way," he said.

The LKY’s way mentioned by ZAM is by taking legal actions and fighting the Western values of press freedom, where he cited the example of LKY winning the case had proven to the world that the Western media valued money more than press freedom.

It was only last week when the senior Lee sarcastically mentioned about the possibility of re-joining Malaysia if and only if meritocracy is being practised when he was interviewed by American journalist Tom Plate.

They have got all the resources. If they would just educate the Chinese and Indians, use them and treat them as their citizens, they can equal us and even do better than us and we would be happy to rejoin them.

This round, LKY was taken as a natural shield when the need arises. However, when thing goes wrong or rather, not as what they don’t expect him to be, LKY would always serve as the trump card (the easy way out) and basically, that’s how contradicting is the political scenario right here in Malaysia.

Unprecedented by LKY? No, he will keep trying on firing blank rounds on Malaysia, pulling whoever’s leg at his discretion.

Unprecedented by ZAM? You bet.

Surprised? Well, not anymore.

Malaysia Boleh? What about Majulah Singapura?!

What sort of a society has Malaysia become?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007 | 12:23 am @ SK

Lest not even mention about the "something’s rotten in the state of Malaysia" like the pervasiveness of corruption cases, the alarming state of judiciary intervention and etc., safety concern and poor education system in place are good enough to convince some Malaysians to move outward.

The worst is yet to come and the brain-drain concern seemingly inevitable.

The looming nightmare is in the making as apparently, decisions by some to migrate is like a pattern - that many Malaysians are giving up on the country and moving elsewhere because things have become so bad.

Hence, our blogging friend Unspun who is currently based in Jakarta can’t stand but to ask: What sort of a society has Malaysia become?

Food for thought while you’re having a Sunday walk.

The people’s Angkasawan!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007 | 2:20 pm @ SK

Amidst celebration of our first Malaysian astronaut (Angkasawan), lest we not forget the real people’s Angkawasan.

(SOURCE: mob1900)

One is our former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir who was at helms of the government for 22 years, transforming an agriculture kingdom into a knowledge capital society, it’s an amazing feat by all means.

Currently, Tun M is under treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after having undergone a coronary bypass operation on Sept 4 and an operation on Sept 22 to clean the wound.

According to Tun’s daughter Marina Mahathir, Tun’s health has improved and he really wants to go home as soon as possible.

Another Angkasawan is a 14 year-old lady Tee Hui Yi, who has been living on a mechanical heart, underwent a second heart transplant on Oct 5, after her body rejected the first heart transplanted in her on Oct 3.

It’s the strong fighting spirit and determination to survive in the face of a life-threatening illness that win the hearts of millions of Malaysians!

That’s truly the people’s Angkasawan.

Damn Streamyx!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007 | 10:29 am @ SK

Damn streamyx!

Since last Friday, streamyx connection at my area was down and subsequent reports were made daily to seek the latest update.

After a few days of typical update from the customer service, they put the blame on faulty fibre optic exchange, with no tentative date given on when the service will be back to normal.

The only good part with all these daily calls is that Telekom agreed to give rebate on pro-rate basic, starting from the day the service is down.

But that’s not the main point. The inconvenience caused due to the unavailability of internet service is such a great pain that I’m still struggling with internet withdrawal syndrome.

It’s time to sought for EDGE/3G service? Suggestion please.

Chan Kong Choy’s 2007

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 | 11:40 am @ SK

From Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal to the worst bus accident in the nation’s history to rumors of his resignation to KLIA security concern till the latest ferry fire which leaves 4 Malaysians dead and 5 injured, Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy has handful of explanations under his belt.

Certainly, 2007 is not a good year for Minister Chan, however being unhappy alone is not going to solve the problem. Pak Lah might be in his joyous celebration mode and doesn’t seem to concern much, however the rest of Malaysians are watching you.
