Negarakuku: Wee Meng Chee apologized
Tuesday, August 14th, 2007 | 3:11 pm @ SK
The Star SMS alert at 3:04pm.
Wee Meng Chee, whose rap ‘Negaraku‘ video clip on Youtube created a controversy, has apologized for hurting feelings of offended Malaysians.
"The controversy has taught me a lesson in nationalism and race relations. To end the controversy, I have decided to pull out the video clip from my blog and I hope other bloggers would stop distributing the video clip," he said.
Any other moral guardians out there?

Do you think he apologize is any different than Singapore LKY apology?
August 14th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
our politicians can’t bear to hear the truth. that’s why they need ISA and OSA and all sorts of crappy laws

Yes it’s appropriate that he apologizes. He’s proven himself already anyway.
His messages have reached thousands of people worldwide.
No matter what, people will remember Negarakuku.

I personally thinks he was merely expressing his artistic talents (and boy does he have it!). If by singing the composed song is demeaning to the anthem, and now we have also been told that baking a cake with Jalur Gemilang is considered the same, then what about our City COuncils who leave our beloved flag to rot on top of monuments?
Check out the marble arch near Universiti Hospital! It wasn’t so long ago that it was all torn!

For my own opinion, whatever/whoever is creative pls try not to hamper them for their own growing but to build/guide them up to the positive those can benefit us & towards our vision 2020.
May God Bless

WEE MENG CHEE is talented…
August 15th, 2007 at 10:48 am
I honestly think that Negarakuku doesn’t help in anything except for being a monotony breaker (for leisure).
And I think we should be sensitive to others even though the allegations may have concrete proceedings.
Creative but not the right way to express Patriotism.

The self-righteous moral guardians are happy.
That’s another screw tightened in the creative parameters of this country.

I understand why Meng Chee apologised (to spare his family from UMNO-BN thuggery), though I don’t think he needed to, and I wish he hadn’t. The fascists in UMNO-BN have said and done far worse things than make a satirical music video.
My blog entry on why he shouldn’t have to apologise:

[…] Star SMS alert at 2:00pm Govt will not accept student Wee Meng Chee’s apology for his Negaraku rap video clip on YouTube, the law will take its course, says Nazri […]

New Straits Times used to reproduce the Denmark caricuture that insulted teh Prophet Muhammad. Pak Lah accepted.
Wee Meng Chee did not support the Prophet but religous icon and practises. NAzri cannot accept.

I thk his apology should be accepted. So many of our politicians who are supposed to be older and wiser than him also did speak out sensitive words and apologized by pulling back their words. They were forgiven, but then why can’t meng chee be forgiven?
He has great talent in composing songs. That was really a nice song if v don’t consider the sensitive issues. It’s straight to the point and mix with the original song so well.
Does meng chee love his country? the answer is no doubt, YES! He loves his country so much that he doesn’t want to see it ruined. In his song, he complained so much in the beginning, but at the end of the song, he said,"Eventhough i am standing on the street of Taipei with my guitar, I am still singing….. follow by our national anthem." That means eventhough he is in foreign country, his heart still in Malaysia.
Man… he is wrong for showing his emotional feeling so openly. But he is still young. Why can’t he be forgiven?
He is just like a child feeling being treated unfair by his parents, showing his temper now. As parents, what should we do? If we thk we r rite, we say,"No, child, stop it, you won’t get anything by doing so, be mature and come back to me." But if we were wrong, then we say,"Sorry, child, please come back, I promise i will not treat u so again." Parents always love their children, right? And parents always want the child to come back.
So that’s all my comments, and i leave it to you all to make ur own decision as a parents. From your decision, it can show that u r kind parents or selfish parents. thank you.

Seeing the clip again, as a Chinese, even though we know it by facts, however I do think that Negarakuku has hurt the feelings of others. I think the damage has been done even though it is not serious.
I admire Mr. Wee Meng Chee talents and also thank him for daring to do things which many don’t dare to do it. But just like all superheroes, it is not without a price.
DAP decided to defend Mr. Wee thoroughly which I think is a bit irrelevant and may risk escalating the matter to a higher ground.
Can’t we just get on with the apology and let Mr. Wee go back to his meditation room ?
We have to understand that not all police are corrupted and so on and so forth.

yup… i think horse shit.
Aiya…. don’t know liaw.
this is seemingly the "bocor" issue already. Now square game lor.
But I also respect DAP for helping Mr. Wee in times of trouble, especially when it deals with lawsuits.

i dink wad he wrote n sang was true .. altgh smht bad bout d goverment but its REALI fact !! dont u all dink so ?
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:48 am
one, two or one thousand police are corrupted. No problem. When you bad mouth the whole thing, someone will get hurt.
If you say one, two or one million Chinese are racists, fine. But when you say all, people get hurt.
DAP Karpal Singh will defend him. No problem with that.
We have to think about social harmony, the facts have been around and most adult would be aware of it. Solving it requires "kung fu". Mr. Wee has tried, but seems not working. We need another more diplomatic approach I guess.
The bottom line is if we think about those family with inter-racial marriages and etc, then it will cause problem for them. It is easy to bad mouth Microsoft when your whole family and friends are using Apple computer, but not when one of them is working in Microsoft. This is the problem now.
Expecting people to be liberal and presenting benefit of doubts, I think we have to wait for 10 more years in this country. Over here, opportunists take advantages.
