When the rap song "Negarakuku" on the YouTube is such a major hit that can’t be ignored by the authority, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mohd Najib Abdul Aziz stood out to explain.
"The police can only take action if the incident occurs in the country," he said.
The next day, Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar joined the fray.
"We can recall him if he is on a government scholarship. If a Malaysian citizen commits something unlawful under Malaysian law in a foreign land, we cannot recall him or her except to frame charges. [...]
"Once the charges are in place only then we can apply for an extradition and that also depends whether there is an extradition treaty between us and that particular country." [Bernama]
Let’s be fair.
Even though his latest parody of the national anthem has been severely criticized by politicians, he is merely a student who produced a video which is totally harmless towards the country.
And yet, Syed Hamid was quick enough to be impulsive and overzealous at his own pace, as he mentioned about the possibility of extradition!

(ěk’strə-dĭsh’ən) Pronunciation Key
n. Legal surrender of a fugitive to the jurisdiction of another state, country, or government for trial.
Now come to think of it , are the police and the Attorney-General’s Chambers that unoccupied to call this a trial? Worse, is it really necessary to extradite the student?
He may have expressed his patriotism in a wrong way, but he is surely a creative talent which this country is lacking of now.
"He seemed patriotic but needed guidance to show his patriotism in the proper way," MCA Youth chief Liow Tiong Lai said.
What’s more when he is ready to apologize and prepares to return to Malaysia next year, why can’t we forgive him? If we’re able to forgive the two MPs commented about another MP’s menstruation, why not this?

hahaha…the foreign minister can’t be that stupid….Malaysia never recognize Taiwan as a country, without formal diplomatic ties between 2 countries and standing extradition treaty, there’s impossible to apply for a extradition….i think i can be a better foreign minister!
C’mon, read about Wang You Theng, Taiwan authorities cannot get him back from USA for a trial on a 700billion taiwanese dollar scandal…

Extradition is abit of an overkill. I hope the authorities won’t set up a special ‘welcome team’ at the airport for this guy when he returns – whenever that is.

bodoh betul le menteri, kalau dia di luar negara, pakai server luar negara polis cakap takde kuasa, sama juga kan dgn raja petra, dia punya server kat luar negara ish ish ish bangangang itu kan hanya cerekarama, nyanyaian
Just because the method of expression of one’s patriotism differs from the staid and dry politicians’ rigid and old-fashioned parameters, he is said to be wrong. Not only is he deemed to be wrong, some "batu api" are trying to magnify this alleged misdemeanour into a national tragedy such that even extradition is being discussed. Has our ministers any brains at all?
One of the reasons why our country will face difficulty in progressing is because our authorities appear to disallow original thinking a creativity. Our old fuddy leaders are certainly not in sync with the times.
If they want the votes of the younger generation, they had better tune up their thinking.

Keris waving, warnings against using sensitive issues in case of inciting riot and silence on questions of religion, constitution and racial equality, to me these are more ‘unpatriotic’ than singing Negaraku in a different way. Either its a knee jerk reaction to show how zealously patriotic some politicians are to punish a seemingly harmless act by a student (Doh!) or its an attempt to divert the people’s energy towards frivolous matters instead of really concentrating on more important and relevant issues within the country.
