Next, East Coast Corridor …

Monday, August 6th, 2007 | 12:10 am @ SK

Less than a year after the PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced the RM382 billion worth Iskandar Development Region (IDR) located at down-south Johor, another RM177 billion project for Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) is in the pipeline.

Merely a week afterwards, PM said the development masterplan for East Coast Corridor involving the states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang will be unveiled by year-end.

It would be interesting to note what’s the total cost for the East Coast Corridor as the previous 2 projects alone already cost more than RM550,000,000,000.00, definitely not a small figure though.

Apart from what we’ve seen so far, this country is going into a metamorphosis stage led by no other than the Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi making inroads into his "Vision 2057", so to speak.

In layman term, that means the era of "mega projects" during former prime minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s time is now over and out.

As of now, let’s embrace the election which appears to be imminent and let’s welcome the new century of "super mega projects" by no other than the Prime Minister who started the manifesto "work with me, not work for me".

The magic words used to work in the GE 2004, but this time around, I bet he can’t be so sure anymore.

He better be.

    ECC - Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
    NCER - Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.
    SJER - Johor.
    Selangor is developing on its own, at a very fast paced.

    So, I wonder what’s the plan for other states like Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.

    i think you left out 3 zeroes.

    550 billion = 550,000,000,000.00

    We dun speak in millions anymore. Now all are in 1,000 millions. Sometimes we just have to rephrase the numbers to feel the magnitude.

    IKR = Rm 382,000,000,000.00

    NCER = Rm 177,000,000,000.00

    [SK] Rectified.
