When Manchester United decided not to come to Malaysia …

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 | 1:03 am @ SK

… let’s see who’s the biggest fool in Malaysia? Who’s poking fun at us?

What about the title? Soccer politics trumps national politics in Malaysia.

[…] But the prime minister was no match last week for one of soccer’s most powerful politicians. In a showdown with the president of the Asian Football Confederation — Mohamed Bin Hammam — the prime minister lost. […]

Malaysia tourism minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor argued that hosting Man United would increase the game’s profile in an area with little grass-roots soccer.

"We are trying to get more people interested in football," he said.

But whose football? […]

I feel so miserable that even before the celebration of 50 years of nationhood, the whole nation is being caught in the wrong limelight.

And that comes with a huge price of being an international laughing stock, thanks to the rational egoism which we shouldn’t have in the first place.

Wonder what all the rabid MU fans are going to say now?

AFC, FIFA & MU = Professionals

Malaysia, the FA, the PM, the ministers, the SIL = stupid amateurs that don’t understand what’s a bloody agreement is about.

yup…there’s no better way to promote Malaysia at international level.

In a enlightened moment of silly whim, the Youth and Sports Minister decided unilaterally to go ahead with the MU game. Now the rest of the Cabinet (the PM included) are trying, for whatever reason, to salvage the game in the face of legal complications. It’s the international perception that respect for the law does not rank very high in Malaysia even though there are a number of trained lawyers in the Cabinet.

Eventhough I am the die hard fan of MU, but the current situation which involved our PM, Cabinet and minister plus SIL is really sick and tired.

Is this a milleneum joke….. ?? Come on PM and the others cabinet members…. we are not voting U to discuss about ‘bocor’ or this football…
