Counter-spin

[UPDATED VERSION] Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor is devastated.

He realized he said it wrongly, then he tried to counter-spin the story. But what he didn’t realize is, the way internet operates nowadays has changed the way you and I lived yesterday, did he?

He is definitely less smarter than the minister who called bloggers as liars, who had set a bad precedence of generalizing bloggers due to a few dark spots among the blogging community.

At this point of time, he should have learnt the implication of not engaging bloggers properly, but no, he didn’t. He wanted to bloggers who host their blogs locally to register themselves. So, instead of censoring bloggers, he said the registration was meant for statistic checking purpose.

Next, what are you going to do with it? If you see an increasing number of Malaysians blog, are you going to engage blogs, being part of us and join the National Alliance of Bloggers (NAB) too? Are you going to rate and evaluate the appropriateness level of how one should blog? Are you going to determine what kind of blog should exist in Malaysia when you don’t even understand what’s blog all about? Or is it merely the underlying excuses provided to censor blogs in Malaysia?

Tell me about it.
