Angkasa Lepas, not Angkasapuri

Now, we’ve 2 surgeons getting ready to undergo a 12-month training in Russia, where eventually, only one of them will be chosen to rocket into the space.
"The physics experiment is to see what happens to teh tarik in space," Haniff Omar, head of Malaysia’s astronaut selection program, told reporters in all seriousness after the selection while one of the two astronaut candidates Faiz Khaleed said making teh tarik in space would bring Malaysian customs to the attention of a worldwide audience.
"Teh tarik is one of the symbols of Malaysia." […]"I think this is a good idea also to bring something from our country so the world can learn something about our country."
Feeling incompetent with merely the teh tarik, roti canai, sambal belacan and batik on the space, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Jamaludin Jarjis said the Government is in talks with Russian officials over whether it can set up live broadcasts of the first Malaysian astronaut when he joins a Russian space expedition next year, as part of a programme to celebrate Malaysia’s 50th Merdeka Day celebration next year.
Put aside the hype created, what about JJ’s turn to reveal the amount of people’s money that would be spent on the live show?

Doing all those trivial antics in space will result in Malaysia becoming the butt of the joke of the world. Instead of contributing to the scientific discoveries of greater importance to mankind, we choose to wash millions of Russian dollars down the drain with such display of self-centered and superficial pursuits. Even Dennis Tito, the 1st space tourist, oppose being called ’space tourist’, instead prefering ‘independent researcher’ for several scientific experiments performed in space. Which reminds me of the Russian Mathematician Perelman, who solved one of the hardest mathematics problem and subsequently declined the top award for his work. He instantly became famous for his dedication to his work and his humility. Funny how fame and glory goes to people who do not seek it.
