Clever people

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 | 10:03 am @ SK

Yesterday, former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad had a say on ‘clever people‘ who graduated from Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and other such institutions of higher learning but did not know how to apply their learning constructively to the development of the country.

"You know what happens when you have a lot of clever people: They spend their time arguing with each other and disagreeing with each other. So they don’t produce anything. A lot of hot air, perhaps." […]

We need people who are able to do things…They must have both knowledge as well as application of that knowledge,

Remember, know how to apply what you’ve learned, clever people?

    ya right, Let’s do reality check!

    Malaysia > Ministers with local Degree
    Singapore > Minister with oversea Master/Phd

    now, which country is more developed? or maybe let’s try another question, which minister perform better job (or even able to deliver the work)?

    i’m not pro-singapore or thinks local university is lousy. Just a reality check. Action always speak louder than voice. I wonder if there is such thing like annual appraisel or KPI on our minister.

    in a company, there are always 3 kind of workers;

    i)  dogmatic workers - always support boss’s decision even though they think it is wrong. always praise the boss but curse in the heart.
    ii) opinioned workers - voicing out their opinion although might jeopardize their reputation/position.
    iii) ignorance workers - might have own opinion but never voice out and follow what the majority does. gossip behind the boss.

    and as usual, dogmatic workers are always the employee of the year (due to their support and obedience) and opinioned workers are considered not a team player. ignorance workers? still remains nobody.

    would u like a group of company executive debating what’s the best for the company in hours long meeting? or 15 min meeting, everyone say yes to the whatever boss says?

    now imagine Malaysia is a company.

    Thought of the day:
    just wondering if local company created this type of work pattern and Malaysia follows. or the other way around.
