Not only illegal racing motorcycle will remain as illegal, they’ve got a new brand name for themselves too.
Illegal motorcycle riders or "Mat Rempit" will be rebranded by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at an assembly in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium this November, says Putera Umno Chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.
He said the rebranding of Mat Rempit was to change the illegal race participants’ image towards something better, and "we are thinking of a suitable name like Mat Cemerlang (Excellent Mat).""We are finding a proper direction for them. We could not stop them to continue with their interests but we can guide them to find a direction," he told reporters after officiating the Malaysian Pengasih Association’s Eighth General Meeting here Sunday.
Abdul Azeez said they should not be perceived as a threat, adding that, "If we cannot stop them, we join them. We try to understand them because they are our youths."
Abdul Azeez said this Aug 26, he and Umno Youth Vice Chief Khairy Jamaluddin would come down to the ground on their motorcycles to meet the Mat Rempit.
Mat Cemerlang Mat Cemerlang, whose great idea is that?

Changing name from mat rempit to mat cemerlang doesnt fix the problem. Changing name will not change who n what u are. These kids need proper guidance.
Btw what does SIL know about what malaysian youth? His youth were spent abroad. M sure the govt can find someone better.

It seems that AAB is fond of changing the names of perceived "negative groups".
Remember KMM? Kumpulan Muhajideen Malaysia —> Kumpulan Militan Malaysia. (that was AAB correct? or was it mahatir?)
but i guess this has more to do with mustering their support for the upcoming election in the next year or two….

What do i think? Well, these rempit are already nuisance. Putera UMNO wants to change them? You guys have sets of Marshalls on the road who doesn’t even know what their functions are! And you want to change others? Come on Pak Lah! I almost met with an accident after Teluk Batik when these loons were scrambling all over the highway. So I wonder what kind of "spritual injections" were being given to this jackos in Teluk Batik…. or were they injecting something else…
Pak Lah pls do not go on with the Mat Cemerlang at Bukit Jalil, might as well you let loose all those loons in the high security jail as well and call them Mat Gemilang! Please la Pak Lah… Dato Hishammudin, pls rationalize your people before they clown themselves!

Problem is there are some Malaysian liberals who apologies for this nonsense and speak of understanding thee misguided, delinquent youth.
I can understand well meaning people going among people like this to giude them away from their nihilistic, useless, and-social activities towards something better and more productive and beneficial but encouraging their activities and even re-branding it is the height of idiocy at best.
At worst, it could be the recruitment of Storm Troopers for a faction in UMNO for something in the future.

the best part is, now they are sending the Mat Rempits abroad on a free scholarship, in Australia and other european countries..putera UMNO has some crazy ideas. sometimes you wonder, how people can stomach news like this and still be proud to say that they are malaysians. there are so many deserving malaysians, who are poor and smart but opportunities are given to a bunch of dirt who have no brains whatsoever and waste the nations time and money and tarnishing the youths name, not to mention the snetch thefts, the dangerous driving. what difference is this then drinking and driving recklously when these bums can do that sober, they should be put behind bars or detention for their behaviours. i wont be suprised if they come back and be the next high profile cabinet minister…
