We need a break, please …

Once again, Umno Deputy Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin a.k.a the-son-in-law shot to the front pages of major Chinese-language newspapers - Sin Chew Daily, Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press - being condemned by MCA and Gerakan leaders, all for wrong reasons. Both the English and Malay dailies have ignored KJ’s remarks.

Excerpt via Malaysiakini:

"The internal split within Umno will weaken the party’s position and this will pave way for the Chinese Malaysians to make various demands to benefit their community," Khairy was quoted as saying by Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily.

"The MCA ministers who have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) earlier this year to demand for Chinese community’s rights was the result of Umno being in a weak position," the report added.

Khairy also argued that Umno woes have created a similar situation as in 1999 - when the Malaysian Chinese Election Appeals Committee (Suqiu) made a set of "demands" when Umno was divided following a fallout between then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his deputy, Anwar Ibrahim.

The embattled Umno Youth No 2 told party members that while they could not blame MCA and Gerakan for making such demands, it was a weak Umno which opened up the opportunities for the two parties, both partners of the ruling coalition, to advance their interests.

Leaders’ reaction

MCA vice-president Chua Soi Lek saying that the rising politician’s views were "unfair and wrong".

"Judging from his statements, he doesn’t understand the Barisan Nasional spirit. Maybe, he is still young and therefore he doesn’t understand the 55-year-old history of MCA as a component party within the BN."

MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan advised Khairy not to create more opportunity for the opposition parties to gain political mileage out of his unwarranted remarks.

"Khairy’s political strategy is outdated. His remarks are uncalled for and immature."

MCA Youth Chief Liow Tiong Lai said KJ’s is a narrow minded politician.

"Why is there a politician who still raises this kind of win-lose theory after so many years of our country’s independence? This is a form of narrow thinking and MCA Youth feels disgusted by it."

Gerakan deputy secretary-general Lee Kah Choon and Gerakan Youth Chief Lim Si Pin also ticked off Khairy and described the remark as inappropriate. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also came out to refute KJ’s insensitive statement.

Love messages from UMNO leaders

Coincidentally, in a separate event, Rural Development Minister Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin said unity was the key to Malaysia’s harmonious society since independence was achieved 49 years ago, and he hoped that the various races and religions could continue co-existing.

"Let’s not go our separate ways just because differences of race and religion. Jagalah hati (Be sensitive to the feelings) of our friends. Do not let (differences in) religion cause the country’s downfall."

The Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi a.k.a the-father-in-law also carried a similar message, which I reckon carries the most weight among all reminders.

Love for the country is the force that unites all Malaysians .

There shall be no fear of one another. We can eat and sleep together under one roof.

Bottomline

First, Khairy went overboard on Israel with high level invasion, to be followed by a call to boycott of goods produced by companies that support Israel which was later rejected by no other than Pak Lah. Now, he brought Chinese community to task of being a bunch of big-time opportunists?!

Being a oxbridge graduate, the son-in-law to PM and a political star in meteorite rise, he must recognize the fact that he is living in Malaysia which is a multiracial country. He must tread his words with care and not to play with fire, albeit the known desperate attempt to gain attention and portraying himself as a new hero.

If strong support expressed by the people towards Pak Lah is a motivation to grow the country, not only he has to do the right thing, he must fix the right thing too, or to be exact, fix from within.

By the way, in a latest report by Bernama, Khairy was quoted as saying that the leaders has misconstrued the message in his speech. Amazingly, all leaders misunderstood him, can I safely conclude that they’re nowhere near the oxbridge level? Another huge setback.

Meanwhile, I’m desperately looking forward to the coming 49th National Day celebration, the time when every Malaysians celebrate irregardless of cultures, ethnics, skin colors and most importantly, nothing racial related similar to such extent.

When two persons misunderstand or miscontrue same message, again, one can suspect that their level of comprehension needs enhancement.
When thre or moew persons misunderstand and miscontrue your message, then, maybe, you have to look at how you actually deliver that message, that it was not clear in the first place, or that you are purposely dubious in making such a message, or worse still, you are just trying to make a monkey out of the whole thing, and create some confusion and disequilibrium.
We have seen and read the contradictory statements and actions of this pugnaciously ambitious young UMNO Youth upstart who was never elected to his position, and yet is making policy statements all over the place as if he is the head of government!!

quest, i beg to differ. malay leaders in this country have worked well with their chinese and indian counterparts. what we have here is a young gun trying to shoot some brownie points, desperate to prove that he is a man (politically). kihairy has come under immense pressure lately and this is a reaction typical of someone who is green. he isn’t cool. he’ll be forced to take back what he said, just as he’d been forced to sell back the ecm shares that he bought with borrowed money (or, rather, that others bought for him).
there have been instances when a malay leader used the chinese card to win a game of poker. but this is not such a case. khairy is too young to know that a political poker is. he can make a poker face and bluff daddy in law, though. but no one else is about to be fooled by this trick.

I, for one, believe that khairy is fighting for his political life, and looks like he is at his wits end. If he carries on like that he will become unsustainable and will follow the footsteps of either Musa Hitam (Tun) or even of Annuar Ibrahim. He should come and seek the advise of people  with a lifetime in political wilderness understanding the minds of people like Tun ARazak, Tun Mahathir, Tun Hussein, Dato Harun Idris, and a few others.

I’ve had enough with references to his oxbridge education. Never have I seen such arrogance.

For Mr Khairy, please remember that education only gets you at the entry level. Even an influential father in law could expedite your ambition.

But the journey is still long. Your pedigree education, family link, etc only takes you up to a point, the rest is you. The more arrogance sets in, the easier you self distruct.

Lets step back and look at the so-called ‘demands’?

    1) MCA memo to PM was a direct response to the general public which Chinese community have a lot a stake. The memo is meant to protect the originality of the founding of the nation NOT a new demand i.e., its a response to ever intolerant demands from religious rightist.  KJ fanning and perpetuating the fallacies is very very wrong period. Its not a point of view, its perpetuating a wrong.

    2) Suqiu issue was started by Dr. M himself who tricked them to support him when he was undersieged within UMNO.   Their stance has always been consistent and only reason they acted was that they believed Dr. M words.  Again KJ is perpetuating a lie and one of his current nemesis which then puts the Chinese community where? They are less worthy of respect than his enemies?

KJ lack of standards and immature mistakes is the issue here and the fact that UMNO put him in such a powerful position should be of concern to BN component parties that is now affected by him. KJ is literally destroying the very foundation of support for BN component parties by his actions…

KJ may have had a very good education. He is literate. Indeed yes. But like any other very educated person who is inexperienced politically, he has tripped many times.
The boy is simply so green, so wet behind the ears. So, what do you expect ? He does not understand the political struggle in the country. He does not know how hard political leaders had to work  to have what Malaysians are enjoying — what he is enjoying.
For as along as we have this kind of ascension to power — be it in Umno, MCA, Gerakan or MIC, we will have this kind of political clowns.
In KJ’s case,  he is not just an embarrassment to his father-in-law, who happens to be the country’s supreme leader, but also the Malays, and Malaysians.

KJ thinks he is saying it as it is. First, he is so inexperienced, so saying it as it is only exposes his inadequacies, ineptness.
KJ represent all that is wrong right now in Umno. Also consider the position of Hishammuddin Hussein. Look at what a mouse he is. Look at how a greenhorn like KJ can so easily overshadow him.
I am a Malay. But, more importantly I am a Malaysian. I am concerned about Umno, the party of the Malays and Bumiputera because it is showing clear signs of poor and weak leadership. Not because this weak leadership represents the weakness of the Malays. No. I am worried because it goes beyond that — a weak leadership of the country.
How can Umno then claim to be the backbone of the BN government .

If only BN stop profressing "racial politiking" in the name of "consensus" then probably the whole system of Malaysian politics would change indifinately ie.merger of all component parties into BN….No more UMNO,MCA,GERAK,  MIC…KEY. etc.

KJ (example of the new and young blood) is mearly safeguarding/ withholding the Malay rights as the ultimate party (UMNO being majority) within the Barisan component.

How insane this may sound in a multi-racial Malaysia…thats what we vote for in the ballot box…for race. The word BN is still a big wish for the past 50 years………. for us Malaysian.

Karpal insisted it was important to straighten out the matter.
Karpal: In the Constitution, Islam is the official religion and nowhere is it stated that Malaysia is an Islamic state. Right?
Radzi: Yes, the Constitution says that Islam is the religion of the federation.
Karpal: That’s all that it is. It is the main religion and nowhere is it stated that Malaysia is an Islamic state. Right?
    Radzi: I agree with you.
Karpal: Nowhere in the Constitution is it stated that Malaysia is an Islamic state. Do you agree?
    Radzi: Yes, I agree.
