Official Car: BMW

Hot air rises, so we need some tit-bits to enlight each and everyone of us, with no less than jokes of the month, from Finance Ministry parliamentary secretary Dr. Hilmi Yahya.

Via Malaysiakini:

The Customs Department is using luxurious cars like BMW in order to make their operations efficient, Finance Ministry parliamentary secretary Dr. Hilmi Yahya told the Dewan Rakyat today.

The usage of these cars is not to upgrade the image of customs officers but for operations, especially in curbing the smuggling of drugs.

"It’s not for style but because BMW can be driven fast and it is stable. It is used for prevention activities. So it is necessary, if we use Kancil, we cannot chase bigger cars," he said.

My suggestion is, next time, if you want to quit your job, join The Customs Department.

Once in a lifetime opportunity, click here to apply for the job.

Probably the fellow has never witnessed a mod Kancil of an everyday Ah Beng on the streets, else nothing of such would have been mentioned. Or maybe too much of Fast and Furious during free time.

BMW because it is faster and stabler to give chase? So what’s next, all police cars to be tuned by AC Schnitzer to prevent crime? If the prevention strategy is good enough, you won’t need to give chase that frequently! Don’t tell us that you need an X5 to patrol the off-road areas across the border next. Then the marines will start to beg for yachts for patrol, and I will still be driving my dad’s old Proton Wira.

Our nation is indeed well known in putting the wrong resources and effort in the wrong place at the wrong time, everytime, ironically, without failing.

A next question to ask is: where’s the national pride that we’ve been dying to protect with OUR money?

Speaking of which: have you seen the Primax 3 ad from Petronas? Ever wonder why is it that a BMW was featured instead of a national car?

    Totally disappointed, again.

    Ah, excuses.

I don’t think the explanation justifies anything though.

IMHO, motorcycles can chase better, don’t get caught in jam, don’t need to line up at toll-booths, cheaper (a high-powered bike can still be cheaper than a BMW) and fast.

I am 44 and have never ever seen Custom Ops chasing smugglers on the highway at neck breaking speed. If only the borders–waterways and other incoming points– are controlled earnestly smuggling can be reduced. Sell the BMW to me at whatever transfer/sale price those guys did internally plus RM1,000 (I am feeling generous maaa!) and buy a decent speedboat or two for coastal guard kan lebeh cantek beb! These people must have been watching too much of that German Fast & Furious type of movies where all the police cars are BMWs..but hey thats their NATIONAL car aint it! :)
