New cabinet line-up: Some tweaks

International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz retained in new Cabinet, Tunku Adnan Tunku Mansor is new Tourism Minister.

Effendi Norwawi has returned to the Cabinet as Minister in the PM’s Department while former Deputy Federal Territories Minister Zulhasnan Rafique appointed Federal Territories Minister.

The insignificant Deputy Internal Security Minister Noh Omar, who has faced public critism as Deputy Internal Security Minister, was made new Deputy Education Minister.

On the MCA side, Youth chief a.k.a new kids on the block Liow Tiong Lai appointed Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, vice-president Ong Tee Keat as new Deputy Higher Education Minister and Donald Lim Siang Chai as Deputy Tourism Minister. Deputy Higher Education Fu Ah Keow, has been made deputy Internal Security Minister, taking over from Chia Kwang Chye (Gerakan) while Chia has been made deputy Information Minister.

As for Gerakan, Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Kerk Choo Ting, who lost the Gerakan presidency in the party poll last year, is the only deputy-minister dropped and being replaced by Deputy Minister for International Trade and Industries Mah Siew Keong. Mah’s position is taken over by incumbent Parliamentary Secretary for Plantations and Primary Commodity Ministry Ng Lip Yong.

Ministers dropped from the Cabinet are Adenan Satem (Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment) who will be back to Sarawak to embrace the coming state election, Shafie Salleh (Ministry of Higher Education) who failed to make it to the Umno Majlis Tertinggi and Leo Michael Toyad (Ministry of Tourism).
