Money factor: From studying into prostituition

Sunday, December 18th, 2005 | 4:23 am @ SK

Money factor can be evil, great enough to lure one’s into prostitution.

Instead of concentrating on studying, some students at a university indulge themselves into being call girl and earn around RM4000 per month.

The report said what lured her into the "profession" was seeing her friends wearing branded clothes, driving cars, having mobile phones and always having cash in hand.

"I was jealous of seeing them having all that. That was why I became a prostitute like them," she said.

I understand that money is a necessity and one can’t live without it.

However the question is, must one compels the mind and feeling extremely intense for the feel-good-look-good factors?

Think hard and share.

On the upside, the girls know what they are doing and do it willingly, are treated well and can opt out at any time, just a proper escort service in places where prostitution is legal.  They arn’t the victims of human traffickers.

Personally, i don’t think there much of a problem other then the girls need to learn proper time management and STD management like how escorts overseas are taught.

Oppss, I didn’t know that it’s legal here then.

  3. viceice says:

it’s not. >.< thats the other sad thing. At least if it were legal, these girls would get the proper education to stay safe, like in singapore, they have mandatory  health checks, educational material etc…

I think there is nothing wrong with money…just the mindset that goes with the money. Instant gratification is what these girls are looking for. In fact, many do practise instant gratification, such as spending before earning (eg. loan and credit cards).

    Financial disaster advise:
"You buy things that you cannot afford with future money to impress those who don’t even care" - a wise man

[SK] Exactly, it’s the FACTOR behind it - MINDSET. If anyone thinks/feels/believes that money is an evil, I don’t mind to be your recipient. :P

Our society is based on capitalistic free market driven economy. Everything is based on money. Simple as that its a willing buyer willing seller transaction nothing wrong with that. What compels these girls to sell their bodies? probably the same thing that drives the average family that tries to keep up with their neighbours.. they upgrade car? we upgrade to MPV…  They holiday to overseas we also go overseas..

After all according to Maslow, once your basic needs has been fulfilled there are other needs which needs  taking care off.. the need for luxurious goods for intances… You cannot blame the girls for we live in a capitalist market aka materialistic economy.

We can choose to blame materialism, consumerism, capitalism and all kinds of other isms, but at the end of the day a lot of people will choose pragmatism over anything else. Just like some people choose to complain about how they don’t get paid enough, things cost too much, et cetera; then there are others who choose to do something about making extra income.

Let me ask you a question in return:

What is the difference between prostitution and MLM or direct-selling?
