Monday, November 21st, 2005 | 12:02 pm @ SK

Maxis SMS alert at 10:17am.

Car painter Ho Sek Kong, 26, was sentenced to hang by the KL High Court for bludgeoning his 52-yr old mother to death in 2000.

Is this unprecendented in Malaysia history?

Whacking one to death is already a great sin, how about the victim is one’s own mother?

Speechless.

Asking someone for sexual flavours? Ogling at someone? Making off-colour jokes?

Sunday, November 20th, 2005 | 5:07 pm @ SK

Guys, watch out your mouth, even though you don’t mean it or only consider that as a joke?

Recently, the Public Service Department implemented guidelines on sexual harrassment in all government departments and agencies, in which private companies will follow suit soon, through the setting up of sexual harassment committees.

Among those offences include: asking someone for sexual flavours? ogling at someone? making off-colour jokes?

Subjective offences, which is very much up to one’s interpretation.

Anyhow, just watch out!

Roy Keane leaves Manchester United

Saturday, November 19th, 2005 | 1:45 am @ SK

At last, Roy Keane as one of the most sensational player in Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) history, decided to end his 12 years of association with the club by mutual consent and quickly grab the attention of another English Premier League (EPL) outfit Portsmouth.

Throughout his playing days with Man Utd which won him lots of compliments, he was no less controversial than the latest crowned greatest player in the history of EPL Eric Cantona. His latest outburst was targetted at his teamates during an MUTV interview, so damning that it was deemed ‘unbroadcastable’ and had left manager Sir Alex Ferguson furious.

It’s all history by now.

Adios, Keane!

On a side note, together with the backing of FIFA, England set to bid for 2018 finals, with the Government launching a feasibility study into the possibility of England hosting one of the most prestigious championship in the world.

Minister Kong Choy, enforcement please …

Thursday, November 17th, 2005 | 12:11 pm @ SK

On Monday, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi expressed his sadness and frustration over the high number of fatalities during the recent Deeparaya celebration. Quote:

"I am so saddened and feel very frustrated." […]

Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy is quick to sing the same tune as the Prime Minister, warning the public that the Goverment has had enough of reckless driving attitude and no more excuses will be entertained onwards.

What truly amused me is that, as a Transport Minister, who is in the position to oversee the traffic ruling in Malaysia, doesn’t realise that this no-helmet antics existed since ages ago?

And if he realised that, does that mean enforcement officers accept various excuses by motorcyclists and pillion riders and let them off the rope, in which indirectly contributed to high accident rate?

Perhaps Kong Choy should try to simplify things, instead of pushing through money and time consuming plans ala education and campaign programmes.

It won’t make him less minister-alike to heed the advice by National Occupational Safety and Health Chairman Lee Lam Thye, where he is right to point out that it’s pointless to debate the traffic laws if the authorities are not committed to enforce them.

He too stressed that enforcement alone is not enough, but must be carried throughout consistently and thoroughly, be it in urban and rural areas.

It’s time to put things together, rather than creating tens of solutions but failed when comes to implementation.

A present by Microsoft?

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 | 9:24 pm @ SK

Apparently, Microsoft is knocking very hard on the Putrajaya’s door.

By taking a a look into the few latest initiatives to enhance the IT skills among undergraduates as well as talks of corporate partnership, lets forget about this.

Why? Microsoft is able to offer the Government something that is irresistible, sounds ridiculous to reject if you and I are in the position as takers, aren’t we?

Yes, I’m talking about the NEED.

On same gender marriage

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 | 1:55 pm @ SK

[UPDATED VERSION] If you read this story properly, you’ll realise that the whole story is not mainly about the RM1 mil spent on the wedding, but it’s the "special kind of marriage" that grabs readers’ attention.

Coincidentally, probably due to extensive coverage by the press or keen interest among readers, Home Minister Azmi Khalid is worrying that this "special kind of marriage" will generate an unwantend trend in Malaysia, hence he has this to say, take this as a legal reminder if you wish to be like one.

Maxis SMS Alert at 4:44pm.

The Govt. does not recognise marriages between people of the same gender even if one partner has undergone sex change, says Home Minister Azmi Khalid.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against this kind of marriage. Ethically, it’s up to one’s jurisdiction to label it. However, this is illegal when comes to law.

Poor them, to say the least. :-(

UPDATE: Let me clarify that, if my child intends to marry as such, I would have gone against that. But, in this case, the couple’s parents are more than happy to welcome them, who are we to judge?

Quote Bernama:

I’m very happy, grateful to the people surrounding us. We’re very happy even though it (the marriage) is not recognized by the government, but it is recognized by my parents, his parents, which is very, very important. They are very loving, open minded and understanding," said Chung when interviewed by […]

The comeback of Orang Minyak a.k.a oily man?

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 | 11:44 am @ SK

I grew up at a Malay village in northern Malaysia and I remember my grandmum used to share about the story of Orang Minyak1.

Due to its spookiness, I for the one will opt to stay at home at night, more to the psychological effect served by the story. Indeed, that was the time where the rampant Orang Minyak reached its height among the words of mouth of villagers.

The fact is, that was ages go. Fast-forwarded to now, the phenomenon of Orang Minyak is back to haunt Malaysia or merely a tool for perverts to execute their jaws?

Oh yes, not forgetting Hantu Susu2 too.

* * *

1Orang Minyak or oily man plagued Singapore and Malaysia during the 50s and 60s era. Their modus operandi was to wear nothing, except perhaps for underwear, and smear their bodies with oil, which made them difficult to catch during pursuit.

2Hantu Susu or milk ghost is that a mother holding her child would come knocking on your door at night, would first ask if you had milk and then if you had diapers to spare her and …..

Pak Lah: Stop political rivalry!

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005 | 4:31 pm @ SK

Maxis SMS alert at 2:03pm.

PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants MBs and CMs to compete among themselves in developing their states rather than indulging in political rivalry.

Yes, a timely reminder to dear MBs and CMs. Whether that’s a hint to certain people, siapa makan cili, dialah yang rasa pedas!

Probably Prime Minister might want to consider bringing in his fellow Ministers into the context, which I believe will sum up a good picture.

Not forgetting his son-in-law too.
