… the world is scratching head and left scientists guessing on the proper medication of H5N1 bird flu virus, those who slaughtered hundreds of sick birds when the virus was raging, did not fall ill.

It is because they wear proper and very expensive PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when they are doing the job.

H5N1 at its current state is still an animal virus. Animal virus does not have the ability to infect humans (or hardly have the ability).
However, H5N1 has shown that it CAN infect humans. Even though it can infect humans, some are infected some are not although exposed to the same contaminated environment. That is the puzzling part. What makes those people fall?
Since H5N1 an animal flu virus, which means humans have no immunity to it yet, can infect humans. It can mutate into a virus which can easily transmit between humans. That is when pandemic will happen.
