Two weeks ago, Idris Jala of the Kelabits from the Bario Highlands in Sarawak was appointed as the new managing director and chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
Yesterday, John Teo of New Straits Times talked about the achievement of this anak malaysia, in which the author himself also feeling proud of. Quote:
The truly remarkable thing about such minorities is that they excelled without any special Government-instituted favours, but if such favours found their way to them, they invariably made the most of them and did the communities they represented exceedingly proud. The exemplary cases of such over-achieving individuals from Sarawakâs smaller Bumiputera minorities are a signal lesson to larger Bumiputera communities such as the Ibans and perhaps also the Kadazans of Sabah.
In the larger scheme of things in Sabah and Sarawak, minorities such as the Bidayuhs and the Kelabits would be viewed as disadvantaged as their lack of numbers means they also lack political clout.
Yet they are showing that for success, control of the political levers of power is not necessary.
I remember Napoleon Hill has this to say on one’s determination.
Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to cut all sources of retreat. Only by doing so can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a burning desire to win – essential to success.
This is inspiring!

[...] On additional note, LCCs are sprouting fast for now and years to come. If national carrier like Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is not prepared to buck-up, even though one may argue that MAS is targetting a different niche market, however to say that MAS is not going to be affected by the onslaught is a bit insensitive. [...] Cool profile, as cool as Idris Jala one? [...]
