AirAsia on mobile reservation

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 | 10:38 am @ SK

Now, you can book your ticket on AirAsia through mobile reservation, so happend to be that national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) lost it wings just a few days ago.

Reason wise for the existence of this service:

“As Malaysia’s cellular penetration rate at 60% is much higher than its Internet penetration rate of 13%, AirAsia’s new delivery channel can reach out to even more customers while reducing operating cost,” AirAsia’s CEO Tony Fernandes said.

Next destination, Cambodia.

I can’t be less excited than anyone else.

There’s even an AirAsia ticketing counter in Giant of Kelana Jaya.

By the way, AirAsia has signed a deal with an established software firm, and their portal system is expected to be upgraded and further enhanced to a more competitive edge.

Someone messaged and informed that this is not new and its very easy to implement.

However that’s not my real intention of putting up and entry on this, but more to recognize the value-added services by AirAsia.

Unless you’ve experienced this oversea, or else from a Malaysian point of view, AirAsia is the pioneer in Malaysia of doing this.

I hope you get my point and please, tell this to MAS if you know anyone in there.

oh yeah, SK..i experienced it when i was in Europe last year..boy..only 12 pound to go to Paris from Dublin..n flying from London to Holland at 30 pound..cheap cheap..check out http://www.easyjet.com or http://www.ryanair.com

  5. SK says:

Because you booked on mobile, so its cheap or because its cheap by natural?

Can GLCs ever be competitive ? Petronas is one that can be a bit more efficient but I heard that they have signed contracts to sell bulk of their product at $18 per barrel, so now they can only sit on their ass when the price hit $60.

And it’s not without irregularities too. Can you imagine rasuah taking place right in the same block as your office in PTT, where people are sacked because they have learnt way too much about others’ wrongdoings ?

Okay back to AirAsia, hmm, I cannot deny that Malaysia Airlines has improved a lot ever since the days of widespread assets unbundling (WAU). But with the govt always willing to bail it out with taxpayers’ money, the urgency to reform is just not there. They could always blame the low fare for cross South China Sea flights which is there for national integrasi. Now that Penerbangan Malaysia took over domestic routes, they can of course blame PMB for not paying them market rate.

Just compare Rapid KL to KL Monorail, or Maybank, BCB, Affin to HSBC or Standard Chartered, RTM to TV3, it’s obvious that GLCs and govt depts still have much to learn. But how to push them to learn without first making them feel the urgency ?
