Let me run through the chronology with you.
2001 – MIC: Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology
2003 – MCA: University Tunku Abdul Rahman
2006 – Gerakan: Wawasan Open University
Soon – UMNO: University UMNO?
Last Friday, Higher Education Minister Shafie Salleh, who is also Umno’s education bureau joint deputy chief said that a Umno-run university would be a "symbol of the party’s strength and struggle".
Yes, you hear me right, "symbol of the party’s strength and struggle".
Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang in a statement yesterday, by saying that:
"There is not a single first-world country where political parties compete to establish universities." [...]"These should be his (Shafie) single-minded priority and concerns as higher education minister instead of trying to restore his popularity in Umno by advocating an Umno university."
"He should decide whether he wants to be ‘father of Umno university’ or to pioneer higher education reform as the minister for higher education to catapult all universities in the country to world-class status." [...]
Come on Kit Siang, correct me if I’m wrong, but when the hell Malaysia gets a "first-world country" status? Self-proclaimed? Maybe.
Come on Kit Siang, correct me if I’m wrong, but what the hell is impossible in Malaysia? You do not agree with Malaysia Boleh? Maybe.
Come on Kit Siang, correct me if I’m wrong again, but who the hell ever in this world propose to setup a university with the objective "as a symbol of the party’s strength and struggle"? You don’t like this idea of being briliant and unique by itself? Maybe.
OK, I’m all wrong. I give up.

umno university? we don’t need another one; we have too many of those already.
Exactly. The objective of setting up the university is absurb, as if telling me that I want to tell everyone that how strong my party is and etc.
This looks like a kiasu-ism for me, just to come out another one in order to win, as simple as that.

I met a guy who set up a center in Wawasan open University and I had a chat with him over his frustration.
He is the consultant and he says that being a consultant means do it all (from report, technical, work and advise) as the mentality of malaysia (“talk world class, do no class”).
When setting the university, this is what he saw different compared to the other various universities he with around the world.
1. 3 Hours meeting – 2 hrs makan + 1 hr tok kok.
2. Malaysian mentality – come work late, bfast, lunch, tea, tea II, balik awal. This means no work done or lil done in a day (this is where he is very frustrated)
3. Do first…later got problem only solve -> fire fighter mentality
4. All talk, no work. All talk big big to look good good but ask to do..ehh dunno gone where.
5. Decision is made by upper management without backup by proper reason. They dont seek advise and they dont discuss. Tomorrow they will just say “Ok, we do this” which at times 180degree turn.
6. All work done is just for the sake of getting it done. No quality and no effort. (He says, how to stay competitive and how to improve when you think and do mediocre)
Is the way Malaysian set up Universities? No wonder 80k unemployed grads.
Again I must stress that Bolehland’s mentality is “Talk World Class, Do NO Class”
Wonder how employable will be UMNO university graduate in the job market? Degree in Bodek-ism, Degree in hand kissing and leader worshipping or Degree in money politics aka rasuah, any vacancy out there for these discipline?
aiyo, MCA got one, Gerakan got one, UMNO guy regreted not naming one when they could (they always like that one lah, i oso dunno why they so…slow)
alas, they can’t change the name, so they going to build one, so easy right?
I say, let them do it…but make sure they use UMNO’s money, not the Goverment one( i know i know, goverment money = UMNO money..tiu)
Then, the stories will go like this. some smart ass chinese developer, go and get the contract( buy from the bumis, they will sell to u cheap2 coz they dunno how to build) and suck all their money, make themselves rich…settle liao.
or maybe they will take all the money from the project( they will pay full amount upfront wat),lets say 100million save them in overseas bank or something, then cincai do the work(dun worry about not meeting deadline la),later hor make ur company high in debt(at least 200million) and sell it to Selangor goverment for RM2…u still untung 100,000,002..,buy urself a yacht, some mansiosn and a fleet of exotic cars and live happily ever after in ,say Monaco( aiya, i like monaco maa, kenot ah?)
see, no trouble at all in the end.
That’s what i’m going to do, wish me luck ok? tiu!
